Hello everyone, first time here on this forum and I am in need of advice. I would like a new piece of literature to read, I've read numerous Dragonlance titles, as well as other Wies type books. Also some Jordan WOT, Ed Greenwood ELMINSTER, Terry Brooks Shannara titles, Robert Salvatore Drizzt Do Urden titles... Something along those lines or perhaps something completely different? I didn't get into the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time series too much, Dragonlance is a classic to me but I've read the story all of the stories so many times I felt I lived it. I enjoyed Terry Brooks though he's somewhat of a doppelganger of you know who ;) Lately I've been reading more Salvatore. I love magic and stereo-typical races (elves, gnomes, dwarves, etc.) Dragons but a strong sense of magic in the world, mages. I was looking into possibly reading the Song of Fire and Ice series ya know Martin... Please any suggestions, I would prefer more adult based reading, or perhaps stories of dispair, with some or all of other interests in the mix. Phew I know I am picky but I know there are those out there who've had a lifetime of reading and I need your help so please help me to expand my library. Thanks -Adam-

If you like a lot of magic I wouldn't read A Song of Ice and Fire, something like the Malazan series by Steve Erikson would be better. If you're not up for something that long you might want to try Memory, Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Williams,Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, or the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb.

Are these titles for younger readers? Do they have adult themes/ violence? I don't mean to sound dismal but I'd prefer if they did. Any suggestions?

You could try Raymond Feist's Riftwar Saga. Magic, fantasy races and creatures, good battles.

I 2nd Raymond E Feist Rift War Saga. Some of my favorite books.

I'm re-reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss right now and it's only solidifying my view that it is the best book i've ever read. I'm enjoying it more the second time.

I know you said that you read a lot of Weis books but if you can find them the Deathgate Cycle is a good series with some references to Dragonlance in them.

Erikson's Malazan series contains a lot of magic but some find it hard to follow. I don't and really like them but for most people Erikson is hit or miss. The series starts with The Gardens of the Moon. May want to do a search and read through some of the postings on the series as they are talked about often.

Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire is a great series but doesn't contain a lot of magic. Which is what I think that you want.

The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks contains a decent amount of magic and has a decent magic system. The series is complete and should be easy to find in any bookstore.

It's morning here so I can't think of any others at this time. I am sure others will post a few suggestions but use the search ability in the forum and look up a few titles.

You people are great, this is probably the first forum I have ever seen where people are actually helping instead of criticizing my thoughts and opinions. Thanks everyone, I went out and bought Magician by Feist and will try that series out but I have and will continue to note all other suggestions. Once again thanks everyone! -Adam-
