World of Warcraft Books

My crystal ball foresees bashing ahead

So I am sure that everyone has heard of the game. I must admit, I found myself playing it for 2 1/2 years, until the redundancy kicked in.

Now to the Warcraft series of books. When I first starting playing the game, I picked up the original works to get an idea of how the world was built. I was somewhat impressed with the storyline and character shaping.

Then out of curiosity, I picked up a couple of the books far down the line, and found them to be poorly written, or well written with horrible storylines (for those who don't know, there series carries on like DL and FR).

Anyone else experience this, or may have I just picked up the wrong batch further down the line? I have heard the argument that writers and the publisher are simply using the popularity of the name to carry the books, and from what I read (minus the beginning one), that seems to be true.

The general rule for Warcraft fiction is that Knaak's books are poor whilst Golden's (think that's her name, the lady who wrote Arthas) are good.
I've only read stuff by Knaak (Day of the Dragon, Sunwell trilogy, half of Night of the Dragon) and I don't hold it in high regard. Day of the Dragon was a relatively good book IMHO, but the character of Rhonin is not great.
Basically, stay away from the writings of Knaak if you want a good book. He's got a habit of creating "Mary Sues" and the like. I cannot vouch, personally, for the other authors and I'm only going by what I've seen posted on Warcraft boards.

Thnx Dwag. I should have been ore specific about my readings in the first post.
What I finished was: War of the Ancients Archive by Knaak, Warcraft Archive by Knaak, Golden, Grub and Metzen (whopping 600+ pages), and the War of the Ancients Trilogy, particularly the Well of Eternity by Knaak.

Now I agree with you, Knaak's writing is not the best. However, I was already playing the game, and reading the beginning books were a treat, because it filled in the curious blanks from the mundane gameplay.

But then some of Knaak's books later in the series were just too poor to follow.

Don't get "Night of the Dragon". It's horrible...
