I'm currently rekindeling my love affair with fantasy. I grew up devouring it. Stints through college and the military caused me to drift away.
Because of my job I'm listening to audiobooks while working. 12 hour shifts can chew them up in no time.
I've listened to the Harry Potter series and American Gods (Neil Gaiman). Both werevery well produced. The readers were captivating and the production polished.
I tried listening to some older books, but they had poor levels and boring readers.
Help me! If your a fan of a particular book(s), series that are very well done on audiobook, please recommend them. I know not all are done on audio, and of those not all are done well.
What would be worth listening to? Please consider the quality of the reading as much as the quality of the writing.

I found The Road by Cormac McCarthy to be really really well done, not fantasy but well worth a listen.

Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War by Clive Barker is definitely a first choice pick of mine for both a great story and one with a top notch performance by the reader. Also, all three of Phillip Pullman's Dark Materials Books are full cast productions and extremely well done.
If you've never listened to the BBC production of Lord of the Rings, well, it doesn't get any better than that.
And if you don't belong to an audiobook club, you ought to consider it... it can save you some money month to month.

I subscribed to Booksfree.com. They send the whole book on CD/Mp3. I prefer this because I can rip them to my player and listen to them at my leisure. Also the Audible format is too much trouble. But I've considered it because of their selection.
I will definitely queue up all these suggestions. I will even listen to some that I read back in the day. It's sometimes easier to follow audiobooks that I've read before, since my mind is half on my job (okay maybe 10%).
Sometimes books with a plethora of subplots and dozens of characters are harder to follow on audiobook, because your eyes don't create the same kind of memory for names and places that the written word imprints when you see it.
So far I like these suggestions. Thank you :)
What is everyones avenue of choice for obtaining audiobooks?
I really wish more classic titles were available. It seems the focus is new releases and a few classics.

The Calderon series is read by Kate Reading and is very good. Jim Butcher's Furies of Calderon is the first one.
Dune was fantastic. It dropped you right there on the planet. I loved it. There was even a bit of sound effects, blowing wind, etc. to give some realism.
Naomi Novick's His Majesty's Dragon series is very good. Napoleonic war with dragons.

Abercrombie's Best Served Cold was very well read IMO and I highly recommend in Audio format. I also really enjoyed the audio versions of WOT and Song of Ice and Fire. I am listening to The Lies of Locke Lamora now it is very well done too. All were extrememly well read and very enjoyable to listen to.
On the other hand... the first Sword of Truth book in audio format was dismal. The reading was horrible.

Currently listening to The Warded Man by Peter Brett and it's really well done.
New Spring by Robert Jordan - Reminded me why I love these books.
Some science fiction audiobooks I loved were:
Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover - just awesome, there's background music and light saber sounds and everything. Plus, great narrating.
Starship Troopers - Heinlein - Great voice that just fit the story well.
