Well, there's plenty of other posts about the merits of Dragonlance, and opinions vary.
But to cut a long rant short: No it isn't good. It's shallow, cliched, tripe.
People might tell you otherwise, but they don't have good taste... ;)

Mordread... the 'Chronicles' is a fantasic read... okay... not deep and meaningfull.... but a totaly brilliant tale... you do have the best Dragonlance however... the others may seem a little lame after that.

After having leant LotR & Shogun (Clavell, very exciting book-don't judge the book by the mini-series) to a friend of mine, he bought some fantasy books. Dragonlance was one of those books. I sat and read it, if I remember correctly, in one sitting. There is just nothing there. There is nothing original at all! The thing I remember the best (or worst, as the case may be) is that the dialogue was incredibly stilted. Character development was nil. I can't remember the character's name, but the half elf would be flying of the handle one second and then fine the next.
All in all.....a bad read. I would suggest that you read almost ANYTHING else.

Heh, yeah.
Actually, I came up with my nickname many years ago by combining a character from my favourite computer game (The ghost pirate LeChuck, from Monkey Island) and the main character from a book (Mort, from, err, Mort).
It's strange how my mind worked then, and if anything it works even more strangely now...
But Dragonlance really does suck. :)

Dragonlance can be very enjoyable if that's the type of book you're into. Very straightforward plot and writing, engaging characters (as the series goes on, they become less one dimensional, I promise :) ), and lots of exciting action. In other words, fluff...but good fluff. It doesn't come close to Jordan, Martin, Rawn, Goodkind, or Tolkien, but it's still a very enjoyable read.

No you're right. Nothing comes close to Goodkind or Jordan... ;)
