What is it all about. I believe that Cad banned Strife. Will you guys constantly give someone warnings to knock off their behavior before hitting the dreaded ban button. Thanks.

In my opinon, Strife was allowed far more than three strikes before he got booted. His manner and behaviour, both to moderators and the rest of the members was terrible. He was warned in the threads he started to behave.

And besides, it's the moderators/ Admin decision and right to ban folks who, in their OPINION are causing disruption. It's their forum and we are all but guests.....

Hum…. Well the little fellow sure stirred up the old hornets nest with this one. Shoot he would have been better off just threatening to kill the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom or the President of the United States, than to lash out at our very own Erebus. His post went so far as to rouse the powerful Cave Troll Dag, into a semi-fevered pitch. The last time I saw him that miffed was when he was caught down wind of me. But alas I have to go to the ssfworld.com by-laws and point out at this time that any really harsh critizem of Erebus can only be handed out by his woman, who has made it a full time job. ;) According to sub-section xx under the heading of Acceptable methods of Redemption I read that Strife’s only real option was to
A)Throw himself on his sword while pleading with Erebus for forgiveness.
B)Maintain his stance and just drink the poison.
C)Admit his error then pay the pittance by being locked in a small room with me for several days after I have just had beans for lunch.
D)Be forced to hold an in-depth discussion with Caladazr on the finer points of the WoT series.
E)Examine the true definition of loser; argue both sides: for and against a prescribed position of the lunar cycles that cause people to lose their minds. Then provide a 45-page essay defending your position that everyone else on the planet is a loser. This should be provided in a PDF file, written in Times New Roman in a 12 font. Oh and there is a little loophole in the by-laws here. It looks like he could have gotten lucky and been able to double-space his lines.

But alas the choice was his to make…

I agree with you guys whole heartedly. I was just curious as to why they did not boot him out immediatlly.

Well the By-laws do provide for a short period where a member can state his/her case and then have it delt with in a civil manner. If that fails and there is no visable attitude adjustment, then its off to me Carmichael and that wonderful plasma gun of his....

You rang Ogg? Your timing is excellent as I just put new Ray-O-Vacs in the ol' sidearm. . .
Now who did you want me to barbeque?

My vote is for Corporal Punishment. Where are those fun smilies when you need them?

Banning someone is really the last thing we resort to, we always try to make people see why their behaviour cannot be accepted and when the person repeatedly fails to see the problem we really have no other option.

So far it has actually happened only 3 times in the history of the forum, twice in the last two days, but that's another story...

Just for the record... I did not ban Strife... I told him the descission for him to go or stay was no longer in HIS hands... he threw that option away...

My 'Goodbye Brother' comment was to indicate that I had finished with him... and would delete all offensive post by him...

The descission to ban him is not just down to one Admin... it has to be approved by all of us... and especially Dag.

One of the biggest hurdles Mod and Admins face at any forum are the personal attacks, which sometimes come in spades, when we have to adjudicate a questionable post or thread. Censorship, they cry out, or worse, they feel that we are denying their right to an argument by deleting the offending post, saying that we, the staff, only do that because we don't have the commensurate intellect to respond in kind. You have no right to remove my posts just because you or another member finds it offensive, they may say. Well, actually, yes we do have that right, and we also have a responsibilty to all our members. These are rules that aren't hidden from you, nor are they used unnecessarily or without very good reason. So, just in case anyone else is not clear why the staff here have to do the things they are sometimes called upon or forced to do, the following is taken from the Agreement each and every member agrees to when they apply for membership at the sffworld.com Forums:

Although the administrators and moderators of sffworld.com Forums will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of sffworld.com Forums or Jelsoft Enterprises Limited (developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message.

By clicking the Agree button, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

The owners of sffworld.com Forums have the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.

Perhaps this will help to further explain the reasoning behind some of the issues raised in this and other threads of late?

Cheers, Neil.
