About 6 months ago a friend got me interested in reading Magician Apprentice. Before that I had never read for pleasure- only homework and books for school assignments- but since then I've been reading near daily. I've read mostly fantasy books so far, starting with Feist's Maigician Apprentice series, then went on to William's Dragonbone Chair, Edding's the Belgariad and Elenium series, Sanderson's Mistborn series, and am currently working through Wheel of Time. Though I did read a few other books throughout.
What I'm looking for now is more of the same quest/adventure story line of the Fantasy books but in modern day. (Not really Urban Fantasy as I did try a few of those and wasn't that interested.)
It does not need to have magic, but something like an older teenager or early-20s protagonist getting roped into an adventure he isn't necessarily ready for. Specifically a story that takes place outside of the North America and Western Europe would be best.
I love the ability of the Fantasy books to really transport me from my life to their world, and am hoping to find something like that but with a more foreign feel.
Thanks,
Earth
