I just started a game of thrones today and just finished the second chapter, but my question is later on in the books does it GRRM go into detail about the forging of Ice? I already am in love with this book, and was wanting to know more about this sword.

Also "off topic" I am starting college in a couple weeks and was wondering if you peoples think that it would be better to start with a pre-calc class or just jump into calculus? Just wondering what you would do thats all...

Glad to hear you enjoy the glory and goodness that is A Song of Ice and Fire. You have many, many hours of reading bliss ahead of you.

As to your question, while Martin doesnt go into lengthy detail regarding the forging of Eddard's sword Ice, he does go into brief descriptions here and there of the steel that Ice is made of, that being Valyrian steel. Later other notable named swords will appear having that quality.

Start with a pre-calc class, at all costs. I didn't four years ago and I still have five math tests from my first year to re-exam. Let that be a lesson.

1. You will find that the scope of the story takes off so much that you will probably forget about the sword.

2. You need a good algebra base for calc. If you have it go right to calc. I took pre-calc in high school and can't really remember what we did.

Well Ive put a decent dent into the book "so to speak" little over 200 pages into Game of Thrones and am loving it so far. I have a feeling Bran is a big part of it, but well see... I also really like Jon and Ghost, but the character that I like the most so far is Arya.

Only 2800 odd pages to go and you will be waiting for the next sequel like the rest of us.

Yeah I have Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords waiting on my nightstand under the Game of Thrones.
Is Feast for Crows still a "its finished when its finished" date or has GRRM told us when to expect the book? Also isn't Jordans new one coming up in about 6 months?

I'm 3/4's through Storm of Swords and becoming bored with it... I don't know if I will continue with the series. I guess I stand out from the crowd.

On and interesting note. I got the Hard Back from the library... It has litteraly fallen apart in my hands. I now have about 6 sections of the book, makes it rather challenging at times!

If you don't have a strong background in algebra 1, algebra 2, and trigonometry, don't even consider jumping into calculus. Even if you do have good algebra and trig skills, a pre-calculus class will probably help you, especially if you're not a math geek.

Calculus is a subject that will kill you if you allow yourself to get behind.
