The Never-ending story from Michael Ende is what really got me into the genre. It's one of my favorite books, if for nothing more than that reason.

Well the hobit was prolly the first fantasy book if you don't include kids books but I wasn't really hooked until I read Magician by Feist.

It is not fantasy but horror, still 'Pet Semetary' by good ol' Stephen King brought me back on line to read and read and read . . . mostly fantasy, for sure.

I know I read the Hobbit and LOTR when I was a kiddy but they never had much of an impact. The book that catapulted me into the fantasy genre was *cough* The Elenium by David Eddings *cough* uhh... I've since moved on from there though ;)

Yet another one who read The Hobbit and tLotR before all other fantasy. I was 10 when I read the hobbit. I tried Terry Brooks after, and wasn't too impressed, but enjoyed The Earthsea Trilogy before quitting fantasy for many years.

The very first fantasy book I've read as a kid was Homerus Oddysee. I was totally amazed. Especially Odyseus dog Argos, who waited all those years for his master and died after Odyseus returned made a big impression on a 11 year old boy.

No wonder our dog is called Argos :)

The first book I bought is Jack Vance's Lyonesse. The last one, for a matter of fact, is Robin Hobb's Fools errand
