Roverandom was a short story that didn't make much sense.

I've never read the Silmarillion but I have it on my shelf and I plan on reading it eventually. From what I hear it's interesting but pretty hard to get through. You'd have to be a big Tolkien fan to enjoy it.

The Silmarillion was brilliant. As good as Lord of the Rings IMO.I admit that it took me almost as long to read the first 100 pages as it did the rest of the book, but I still enjoyed it nontheless. At times it is simply beautiful...

It was completed by Christopher Tolkien, but I didn't find that it had much of a effect on the overall quality of the book.

Never read the other book.

I've recently finished reading The Silmarilian for the second time and it was just as good if not better than the first time I read it. I'm thoroughly fascinated with the dedication and detail John Ronald Reuel Tolkien floods into his works. Seeing how Tolkien was a linguist he has created such rich defined cultures between the races of his fantastical land ( middle-earth ) by defining them with language. This was demostrated time and time again through this book of history. Overall the unique combination of heroism, defeat, tragedy, romance, fantasy, and reality of The Silmarilian takes you for quite the ride which can be depressing at times but quite enriching and so worth it in the end. I'd recommend it to those of open minds and those eager to 'expeand their horizons'. HOwever if you are sinnacle, bitter, and experiance fits of anger during minor stages of depression of frustration... well... spare your friends and family and leave the book on the shelf because it isn't for the weak willed or the weak minded. OH yah, and one more thing, don't pick up the book unless you have a lot of time to dedicate to it. If you put it down for even a single week before reurning to it you may be lost beyond hope.

Yes, there are a lot of complicated names to keep track of,but for me it added to the charm.
