Anybody read these? Any opinions on them?

A friend of mine offered to borrow them to me, but I have never even heard of them. She liked them I guess, but I don't know a whole lot about her taste in books either.

Just wondering if anybody had read them and if its worth my time to give them a read.

Please no spoilers (obviously I would think, but still - doesn't hurt to mention it)
thanks

I just finished book three, The High King's Tomb the other week. I enjoyed the books for the most part, I like the idea of the kings messengers, pretty descent series overall.

I kind of feel it's a weak Mercedes Lackey.

Although i don't remember much about it beyond thinking it a easy and not memorable beyond 'well, that's already done'.

I, too, enjoyed the idea of the series, but the execution was so-so. I finished the first and second books. What particularly irked me was the second one, First Rider's Call. King Amilton, for all of his emotional sensitivity and good nature, can't seem to separate his personal affairs from his kingly responsibilities. And Captain Mapstone is a damn train wreck and unfit for command through most of the story, locking herself in her room and shirking her duties in self-pity, actually refusing to help younger Green Riders who are left to keep things going. If the internal logic of the story world held--that they were an elite unit of dispatch riders-- she should have been stripped of her command and brought up on charges, being the commanding officer of said unit. In short, there are some interesting ideas, bogged in melodrama that characters stumble through until the next deus ex machina resolves the gridlock. Oftentimes, the author makes you care about the characters, but you're left unsatisfied at the end of your reading.

I found the books an interesting read, this is the writers first series, so i think some leway can be allowed for lack of depth and consistency with the characters. Its a gripping, but reasonably easy read. As the books go on she seems to be maturing a little, so hoping for a little more with the fourth. :) Its worth a read i think.
