Please help, I'm looking for this particular scifi book

Years ago, a very good friend of mine told me about a book he had read in college. I remember him saying it was about a spaceship carrying a group of vampires looking for a new home and that Earth had already been destroyed. No, it's not The Space Vampires by Colin Wilson.

This story seemed to be about the last surviving lifeforms from Earth, and they happen to be vampires. I told him I would read it but then forgot about it. Now that he's dead, I really want to track this story down and read it. Does anyone here know what I'm talking about?

I honestly don't know if those are the ones, but I'll check them out.

According to my friend, it was about a group of vampires who were native to Earth but had to escape because of some apocalyptic event. I can't really ask him for more details since he's dead...
