In search of a book! Mnemikos, Storytelling, etc.. etc..

Its a hard word to remember - but the book is outlined around a young sorceress who is blind, but manages to see with magic - and the main character, a storyteller who goes to a school for something along the lines of a 'Mnemikos", he learns staff fighting and all kinds of old tales about dragon riders and such.. then goes on an amazing journey combatting against an evil race of people that have huge blimps that they harnessed elementals to move against the winds.

The story starts with the main character in a fishing village and his father is trying to get him into being a guard for the local militia, but instead the son decides to become a storyteller and it goes on and on after that.

I remember the general name of the book, but I cant be sure of how its spelled so its making it super frustrating trying to search for it.. but its somewhere along the line of 'Mnemikos' or some junk like that!

Any help would be appreciated, I had this old book a long time ago, and it got ripped in half and thrown out so long ago that I cant remember the author or much else about it :-(

Thanks ahead of time for the hopefully helpful answer!

-Mike

Sounds like Lords of the Sky by Angus Wells. You can check it out at the link, but the description seems to fit dead on to what you were saying. best of luck!

haha, no problem. It was actually your memory of Mnemikos. I popped that into google and it asked if I meant something else that was spelled very similar to what you put. I said sure. It came back with some things but nothing on a book. So I added book to the Mnem thing and voila! Right there :)
