why is the site not kept up to date?

I've visited this site before. Became a member a few days ago. Posted a movie review and my review has not even shown up yet. Posted a second review, thinking the first fell through the cracks. Still hasn't shown up yet.

I notice that story contests winners are only up to 2006. Has there been any newer contest since then and if so, why aren't winners' lists posted in the story section? The only thing that seems up to date is the news section.

Heck even the copyright notice for the main page of sffworld is outdated i.e. 2009. That's five months out of date. Point made.

I am not a heckler. I might even post a story here. Just that this site looks good and yet it could be better if someone took the time once a week to keep it up to date. Are there 2007, 2008, 2009 contest winners or am I missing something?

Ok, deep breath.

There has not been a official short story contest since 2006, so no winners for 2007,2008,2009.

Reviews I believe (a mod will correct me if I am wrong) are looked at before they go up, so give the mods a chance, it has been the weekend. They don't get paid for doing this you know.

Duh, if copyright has been re-newed for 12 months at the end of 2009, I think it will be another 12 months before it is applied for again, so then it will read copyright 2010...

Welcome to SFFworld:rolleyes:

I realise the site is maintained by volunteers so time may be a problem. However someone needs to have a good sweep out of the reader reviews section. Far too many double ups of names etc. eg under H

Frank Herbert
Brian Herbert

In that order x3

On a related note, I've been periodically correcting the entries for Butcher's Dresden Files as to volume number and the spelling of Death Masks (no apostrophe) and putting Blood Rites in (The Dresden Files series not Dresden so they all appear together) for a while now. Not that the changes have stuck.

Not sure why it bugs me, but it bugs me and I tried to fix it.

The reviews are read through before they go up. What you don't realise is that for every review submission, there are 10-20 submissions of spam/links to dubious sites etc.

Then there are the one line reviews which simply say 'OMG that was cool.'

Our staff are voluntary, and like all forum members, they tend to pop up for a few months, disappear for a few months to a mythical place called the real world then come back. If any of you want to volunteer, give Hobbit a PM although there may be a waiting list depending on how many currently active staff we have (it's like that secret society that in order to join you have to snuff out an exisiting member to create a space).

Patience grasshopper- your review should be just around the corner
