George R R Martin - aSoIaF 10 Votes 14.29%
Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time 18 Votes 25.71%
Terry Goodkind - Sword of Truth 8 Votes 11.43%
Steven Erikson - Malazan Book of the Fallen Votes 34 48.57%

There the results of the first 'Who will finish first?' (http://sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7300&highlight=finish) thread done back in 2004. Terry defied popular opinion and streaked in by a country mile to take the victory. Though the other three are still going the order is in little doubt. SE, RJ/BS with GRRM bringing up the rear.

Onto the next Gen kinda!

Brandon Sanderson - The Storm Light Archives(10 books). 9 left to write.
Scott Lynch - The Gentleman Bastard Sequence(7 books?). 4ish left to write.
Jim Butcher - The Dresden Files(projected 20ish books). 8ish left.
George R R Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire(7 maybe 8). 2 or 3.

I don't know which one will finish first, but I do know one thing...

Sanderson, Lynch and Butcher will finish before Martin. ^^

Now for real, I think Jim Butcher will finish first. He seems to publish much faster than any of those, would say Sanderson but his just starting this new epic and still has WoT to wrap up. So yeah...

butcher. he seems to put out his volumes the quickest, so even with 8 remaining we'll probably see them all before ASOIAF.

GRRM could do just about anything due to how close he is to finishing, i mean it didn't take him long to complete the first 3 books really. maybe out of nowhere he'll wrap up the series in 4 years or so. who knows. but i wouldn't bet on it based on how he's been writing the past 10 years.

i'd say sanderson but he just has too much on his plate (wants to do another mistborn trilogy, has wheel of time to complete, plus 9 more books possibly after this years stormlight).

I'm going with Lynch. If he gets his mojo back he's in with a shot of beating Butcher as like Sanderson, Butcher works on other stuff and Lynch has half as many books to write.

I'm pretty sure Butcher has pushed the series projection to 24 books.

I don't think Butcher belongs in this poll. His books are too short, for one thing.

After him I'd say Sanderson-Lynch-Martin

Yeah, so let's ignore how Butcher has been pumping up 2 books per year for the last 6 years, plus all his short stories and novellas. And let's ignore how his latest paperback was 848 pages, but from another series. Books being too short is an oversimplification. And he has the most book to complete in the list. So it evens up.

I voted Martin. I think the series on HBO will help to push him.

Sanderson just started Stormlight
The Dresden Files will go for more books than a few of the other series combined.

good point, hopefully it goes for its full length then and isn't cancelled.

Butcher will win because I don't think he's human. He's gotta be a machine to be able to do what he does.
