Hi
so I am going to turkey for a few weeks. And what i need is a
good thick book for the long flight. I'm not adverse to taking two books
but one big single novel would be ideal
Any suggestions? I was looking at Jonathan strange book.

Have you tried The Name of the Wind yet? Perhaps an omnibus? The Hyperion One will keep you going for awhile or if you don't mind trying a shared world book The Founding by Dan Abbnett. The Sundering duology by Carey is a good two book option.

I second The Name of the Wind. Nice long book that will keep you glued to each page.

If I were in your shoes I would probably take Severian of the Guild by Gene Wolfe - the Gollancz edition containing the 4 Long Sun books in one package. Or Ash: A Secret History. They are the only ones to keep me occupied for more than one week on a lazy holiday.
But I'm not in your place, as I would take any number of books on my Sony PRS 505, and be a lot lighter on the plane.

When I flew to The Philippines last year I took with me Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. That is an excellent choice. They have little paperbacks of it, and it is a very lighthearted and good read. And it doesn't require deep concentration. :)
Too bad I forgot to take it with me when I exited the airplane hehehe :o So I had to buy it anew.

I suggest the Fionavar Tapestry omnibus by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's a nice length, and a great story that will keep you engaged the whole time.

Just a small corection: Severian of the Guild contains the four books of the New Sun.

I would also suggest the Name of the Wind. If you want to get a taste of it, here's a link to a sample:

Yeah, Name of the Wind I read when it first came out. I liked it. Perhaps a second reading is in order.
Though, Jonathan Strange is appealing, as it appears to be light.. I doubt I will do much reading while I'm on Vacation, just for the flights really. But, who kows. :)

If you are a fond of Romantic novels then go for Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale.
