The not so usual suspects

Which of these "low profile" authors do you enjoy the most.

Sorry Erebus and Gemquest, but I am going with Stackpole. Among other things, his fight scenes are simply amazing.

Well as I've only read Neil's work - my opinion is slightly biased. :D

I'm actually reading Wraith Tide at the moment (#3 in his Erebus Equilibrium series) and enjoying it immensely. His stories are definitely plot driven and the pace doesn't let up. Just when I think I'll stop at the next likely break, something exciting happens to keep me rivetted for longer than is prudent (according to the family, anyway :D) I don't see the problem, myself. ;)

As always I will side with my man, Stackpole. I always love his books and he is one of the few authors I can count on to put out a consistant good book everytime. Sooner or later he will gain the fame of the "bigger" authors out there. He certaintly deserves it. And like Shef said, his fightscenes kick some posterior.

An Aside:

Hey Killer Chicken, What is your favorite Stackpole book. I myself am partial to Once a Hero and Fortress Draconis.

Sorry, but I've never read anything by these authors...yet.

I voted for the only author I've read (Saberhagen). Hope it dosn't screw up the poll.

Well, Shef, the first fantasy novel of Stackpole's that I read was Once a Hero. I loved it so much, that I bought the rest of his fantasy books, which at the time didn't include Dark Glory War or Fortress Draconis. So, I read them all, I enjoyed them all. I really liked the ideas in Eyes of Silver, especially the air car things (can't remember what they were called, it was quite awhile since he has read that book), but I didn't get into the story for quite a few pages. But it was a good read. I liked Talion: Revenent quite a bit. But overall, I would have to say I enjoyed Fortress Draconis the best, I'm not sure why, but it was a great read. And Once a Hero is a close runner up, because it holds the magic of the first novel of his I read. Then Talion, which was a great read also, I enjoyed the characters in it a lot.

Oh Shef, I was wondering, how did you find Stackpole? Not many people know about him. I personally read his Star Wars novels first, which lead me to his fantasy books. And that in fact lead me to the genre of fantasy.

Same here KC. I read his Star Wars books, and then got into his novels. The only fantasy books that I read before that was LOTR and The Potter books. But, he was the one that led me in to the larger world of fantasy in general. Now I am debating if I should go into the Battletech series or not.

Yea Shef, I thought about the Battletech books very hard. I was very close to buying them on amazon, but I stopped and realized that I really liked the fantasy genre alot and that there were so many great authors that I hadn't read yet, that I would give it some time before I bought them. And I didn't have a lot of cash either. But they are on my to-read list. I'll probably get them within two years, I figure. I've never played any of the games though, and I've never read books based in a game world,so I'm not sure if I'll like it.
