Just thought I'd mention that SF/F activist Gabe Chouinard, whose column 'dislofics' at SF Site helped promote quality speculative fiction writers like China Mieville and Matthew Stover, has after something of an absence reestablished 'dislofics' at Dusk. Check it out:

Another well done by Gabe. His column is getting more reasoned and thought out all the time. Same message, better voice.

I usually find myself in agreement with the opinions that he conveys in his writing, but in some ways I don't think that he does the "cause" any favours.
He's too angry, too confrontational, and overly sensational for my liking.
I guess that he's got the same impotent rage (as I like to call it) that many activists possess. I find it slightly wearying, really. It conjurs up the image of someone beating his fists against a steel wall, foaming at the mouth, and ranting into the air, unheard...

"He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts...."
Yeah, the confrontational activism is wearying, especially for me. Which is why with dislo2, you'll be seeing a lot more thoughtful, creative pieces than in the original dislofics at SFSite. 'course, this time around I had to declare my independence.
Trust me, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Where I used to have fanboys frothing at the mouth, now I'll just leave them drooling in fried-mind mode.

Well, I'm looking forward to reading what you come up with, Gabe.
I'm glad you didn't take my post as an insult. Confrontation has it's place, and I think that most people who care about a cause have felt so frustrated, at some point, that they just want to scream "Don't be so close minded, you fools!".
The key to opening up those dusty, closed minds is to impress, rather than antagonise. Of course, that's easier said than done...
By the way, when are we going to see a novel from you? That's something that I'll really want to read.

All kinds of frustrations and triumphs relating to FARWALKER, the novel I'm currently writing.
