Funny, perceptive quotes about writing

From Sarah Silverman, on writing The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee:

In the beginning I wrote with such a furrowed brow, the way I thought writers should write. I had to throw a lot of that away… Writing is so lonely….You learn to give yourself rewards every time you make any kind of stride. Like, "Oh, I deserve a nap."

Like, "Oh, I deserve a nap."

Brilliant. I think I'll go do just that.

Having just written for about nine hours straight I'm quite inclined to agree with you!

Here is a cartoon by Shannon Wheeler (http://www.tmcm.com/), whose cartoons have appeared in The New Yorker, commenting on the life of the author.

Speaking of the New Yorker cartoons there is one I wish I could find to post on my post-it wall. It shows an image of a similarly hapless writer at a keyboard. On the right shoulder stands a tiny angel talking on one ear. On the left should stands a tiny demon. They are saying things like.

I really need to finish this scene before I lose my inspiration. Kat will be disappointed if I don't send this in.

I really could use a pizza right now. Hey, I've got to pee! Hey, there's that cute sktrgrrl, and aren't those shorts tight!

Writing a first draft is like being chased by zombies. Don't look back.

If you see the sunrise and you are still writing it is dawn of a perfect day.
