Hiya, Been lurking a bit here and figure I'de introduce myself. I am 32 and live in New Hampshire, USA
Been reading Scifi and fantasy since about 2nd grade.
Think the first fantasy I read was the "Wrinkle in Time", The first scifi was HG Wells.."the Time Machine" with Heinlein's "Stranger in A Strange Land next.
Like many am also an aspiring author. Plots and storylines are good but the dialogue is poor. Don't have a favorite author, read too many, and most I read have both good points and bad. It depends on my mood.
Why I read Scifi and Fantasy (the most) Who knows, the stories have always intrigued me and held me riveted the most. Though I have been known to read whatever I get my hands on.

I'm Joanne, I live in Ohio. I'm 30, married and have one child.
I don't remember what the first Fantasy/Sci-Fi book I read was. It was most likey Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy (blame my brother).
It was Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey that got me hooked and kept me reading (and I still cry when I read it).
Well nice to meet you all.

Well! Never one to shy away from a little promotional whoring...
I'm Gabe Chouinard, 27-year-old husband, and the father of a 2 1/2 year-old daughter with another child on the way.
I'm a writer, editor, general nuisance. Have all sorts of fun projects. Sheesh... can I list them here?
I'm a columnist for www.sfsite.com (http://www.sfsite.com) and www.revolutionsf.com (http://www.revolutionsf.com)
I run a forum at www.delphi.com/metrofanatic (http://www.delphi.com/metrofanatic) for fantasy/sf/comics/etc. fans.
I'm editing an anthology with the heavy-hitters of spec fic, like Mike Moorcock, Matt Stover, Tad Williams, Michael Swanwick, Graham Joyce, China Miéville, etc. etc. etc.
I'm in the throes of writing my best novel yet, FARWALKER, which I think will actually be worthy of publication.
And I believe that I have been hardwired for fantastica since before birth. I can't even recall the first fantasy story I ever read. But there are many, many, many of them since.

I can only imagine how slim the chances of anyone reading all the way down to this post. However I certainly did enjoy reading all the posts. I marvel at the scope and diversity of people that visit here. It is very special. My name is Zane, I'm currently living in Salt Lake City Utah, USA. I have recently lived in assorted parts of Alaska and Washington. Having been a touring musician I been on the road for a while. Tried to get away from it to save a marriage, but alas to late.
Any way I read "The Hobbit" in Jr. High School. then EBR, REH SRD, Eddings, King, Koontz, Tad, WoT, etc, etc.
I;m also joining the ranks of billions of up and coming authors.
I think this is a great and special place. I'm so glad I stumbled across it.

My name's Luke.
I'm 25 years old, and in the future I'll be one of your favourite writers. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
Seriously though, I work full-time as a computer games tester. It isn't as fun as you might think.
In my spare time, I'm writing a novel called Scatterjack. It's a dark (dark, dark, dark!) fantasy/SF/horror hybrid that will probably scare and confuse fans of Eddings/Goodkind/Brooks and the rest.
Take a big cooking pot. Add in China Mieville and Michael Moorcock. Sprinkle in a pinch of Peter. F. Hamilton, and add a big glob of weirdness for seasoning. Stir the mixture gently for a few years (Taste it occasionally, and add a pinch of originality if required).
Ta dah! You've just made Scatterjack.

Nina, 27 danish and recently moved to Southern Spain to be with my english boyfriend. Work as a webdesigner.
Can't remember the first book I read. I was reading anything I could get my hands on. Remember coming home from the library with 15 books and spreading them all over my bed, studying the covers and reading on the backs. Trying to decide which one to start with. I was like a big table full of candy.
Read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy but it kinda stopped in my early twenties.
Last year I did some thinking about my life as it felt dull, and tried to remember what really used to make me happy. And then I remembered, the foreign worlds that take me away from everything I know.
Have to buy all my books now though, as the library here in Spain doesn't have that many books in english.
Are all readers here distant people, who love to escape reality by reading a good fantasy novel? I sometimes find it hard to be present in real life, and somehow I don't think reading books is going to help me get more present.
But it is still great!
