Hi, I'm new to the boards. Not sure how often I'll be around -- and I'm going out of the country in a few days for a few weeks -- but I just HAD to rejoin a community of well-read and obviously intelligent fantasy people. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif I just finished Dragonlance Legends and I have no one to discuss them with! Ah! The Embarrassment... when my friend suggested I read it, images of pock-marked, small-boned pubescent boys with superior language skills entered by brain. And yet, how happy I am to eat my visions!!! That trilogy turned me upside DOWN!!! I've been walking wounded!!!

I'm in my late twenties, live in TEXAS!!! Woohoo! I enjoy reading, music, good movies, hanging with friends, and traveling -- and that's about it. I cut my teeth on The Dark Is Rising Series by Susan Cooper and moved onto Tolkien from there. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif My fave fantasy authors are: Tolkien, Martin, Tad Williams, Stephen R. Donaldson and Robin Hobb. I think I love fantasy so much and always have because I find myself BORED most of the time. I'm just waiting for something out of the ordinary to occur. Something exhilarating, something noble, something worth sacrifices. My life is normally full of drama, but it's not exactly the kind I have in mind. It's more like General Hospital meets The West Wing meets Frasier crap.

I'm an actress and a singer and got my degree in screenwriting. I make a living at that stuff and also work at an acting school. I'm obsessed with the country WALES. I love the thought of fairies and dragons because I believe there's a truth in all legends -- they must've come from SOMEWHERE. I love aesthetically pleasing things. Again, I emphasize I LOVE music and can't read without it. Anyway, I don't know what else to say. Just reaching out to some fellow fantasy-readers because I think we're all an interesting lot.. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Good thread.

Russell, 32, computer software contractor, Live in the county Surrey in good old Blighty (UK). Wales is good for windsurfing but not too many fairies and dragons 'these days'.

Started with the Hobbit at 6 and never looked back now reading most genres.

When I'm not cycling or playing squash I'm reading, watching filmns, swimming, sailing, windsurfing or diving.

Love it.

Russell, 32, computer software contractor currently working in London & living out in sunny(?) Surrey in Blighty (UK).

Started with Hobbit aged around 6 and never looked back. Now read most genres. Trying my luck with FA again thanks to you lot.

Wales is good for Windsurfing but not too many faries or dragons about 'these days' I hear.

Interests when not Cycling or playing squash is watching Films, swimming, windsurfing, sailing, diving and er reading? Occationally I fit some work in there somewhere.

Hi I'm Robert and I'm 11 years old and I live in North Wales. The first fantasy book I read was the hobbit when I was seven. I read quite a lot but I didn't really start reading a lot of fantasy until a year ago when I read the Lord of the Rings then after that I read Robert Jordan's Conan books and Kings Dragon by Kate Elliot which got me hooked on fantasy and I haven't stopped reading fantasy since.

That's another one for the Kate Elliott!

Just finished this one myself - have you read the whole series? (I've got the others in the pile to read..)

If you like the Robert Jordan Conan, try the originals by Robert E Howard - a little dated but quite energetic, by Crom!

Ah yes, Conan, how about the GOR series by John Norman, think Tarnsman was the first one. Read those when I was about 12 and loved them. Also read David Gemmells stuff like Legend SirRob, you'll love him although best read the others first as you possibly wont like them as much after. There was another set I really liked but can't remember what they were, have to dig through my boxes.

Wow, Loki's 13, and SirRob only 11 - our members are getting younger and younger, which makes me feel old!

Welcome to all newcomers! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Rusty... Yes!. The Gorseries was fun, I have to admit it has been a long time... a very long time, but I did enjoy this series of books. In fact I have a mystery here, I know I had these books, but I know I do not have them now... I need to find them again I think. Thank-you so much for reminding me of them.
