Hi my name is George and I live in Austin,TX USA. Its been a long time, but I remember reading a story called "Crying Jag" in a defunct magazine, "If". And I've been hooked on Sf/Fan ever since. Later ya'll.

Hello! Wow! This is a great site that I just stumbled across this afternoon! I am normally a "lurker" on discussion boards, but this great thread encouraged me to register.

I live in Columbus, OH, USA. My first fantasy books were Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy ("The Crystal Cave", "The Hollow Hills", and "The Last Enchantment"). I HIGHLY recommend them. Like most of you I have read The Hobbit, LOTR, Silmarillion, etc. many times! I also like Ursula LeGuin, Frank Herbert, and HP Lovecraft (not totally fantasy, I know!).

I found these boards by doing a search on the internet for "Sword of Shanarra". I recently started it and was looking for opinions, artwork, etc. That's how I found you all!

sword of shannara is good - a blatant - THE blatant rip off of lord of the rings - but a good story nonetheless.

I'm Michael, I'm from Perth, Australia and I'm an IT student and former Accounting student.

My first introduction to Sci-fi and fantasy was watching and reading Doctor Who, and watching Red Dwarf and the Narnia Chronicles. My first fantasy book was a Tanith Lee book. A few years ago a friend told to read Feist for our English class. So I read Faerie tale and after Magician I was hooked. After Feist was Tolkien, now I'm halfway through Jordan.

I am also writing a novel. If it doesn't get published when I finish it, I'll have to get a job and write one of my many many many ideas.

Hello!
My name is Jukka and I'm from Helsinki, Finland. I'm currently living in Princeton, NJ, tho.
My first fantasy must've been either Tolkien's Hobbit, Lewis' first Narnia-book or something by ERB. I'd place a bet for one of the Mars-books or the Tarzan in Pellucidar, but I have no active memory of it anyway. I do remember reading the other books.
I'm 33 and on a sabbatical from my "real" work (Interior Ministry of Finland). I spend my time reading, layabouting, reading, surfing the net and doing oh-so-far-too-little-writing. I'm trying to write my first novel while in US. I have published few short stories in Finnish sf&f-magazines as well as articles and reviews of various subjects and books.
Why SF/F? Well, it appeals both to my rational and my fancy. It has qualities I like, it takes to adventure and excitement but it also makes me think and ponder. I like the surroundings, I like the idea of secondary world, of future imagined. It just suits me. I'm not especially escapist, but the feeling of "foreign" appeals to me. And if you would have been subjected to strict dietary of somber national-realistic backwater realism of Boredom City, as we Finns are at school (or at least used to be), you'd be a Fantasy-reader too. And, you are!
I've been lurking a while and decided to come out of the closet finally. I had some excellent remarks about your writings, but since the road here was a long one, I have already forgotten what was said in previous messages. Good to be here!

hello.....
I have like others, been lurking these pages and have come forward.
I am a yr old 25 single mom in PA, USA. I have lived just about anywhere...

I had totally forgotten about Choose your own Adventure books until I was reading through these pages. My brothers and I
used to fight over who chose the better ending first.

I am a big fan of Brooks and Goodkind. ( yes i know everyone hates him)

I am also love Piers Anthony ( okay sci fi)

I think there are only a few books that I haven't liked. I am a lover of stories... Be them real or fantasy. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

nice to meet all of you...

Barely 10 miles away, North Brunswick. I went to Rutgers in New Brunswick so I've been in the area for a while.

Don't forget about Kevin Smith!
