You want exotic locales- you got 'em! I'm Shehzad (well, OK I made a little mistake while registering but I guess my own name is just as cool as all those fantasy names http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif) and I'm from Pakistan. Go look for it on the map... I'm 23 (and I thought I was young!) and hopefully (fingers crossed) will be a medical doctor in couple of months (I'm in the middle of my final exams now)...

I lived in Paris for 3 years in the late 80s and there goot hooked on Fighting Fantasy and D&D followed by the Dragonlance Chronicles... First science fiction book was The Gods Themselves by Asimov and it's stll one of my favourites. I guess I like SF more than fantasy though I read more fantasy (probably because instead of hard science fiction we now get watered down speculative fiction).

One appeal, although I know it's in vain: I like many other (relatively) long-term fans resent the term "sci-fi" when used o describe science fiction. It was originally a derisive term "hi-fi sci-fi" and like a lot of hardcore fans, I never really liked it. In fact, a lot of us tend to use it to describe BAD science fiction eg Godzilla. Unfortunately, it's so engraved in the language that it'll be difficult to hold it back.

Plus ca change...

heh, sci fi is just easier and faster to type, i don't see any negative thing about it...

Hi, I am Sally from England. I am 32 and married with a young daughter. I am a nurse on a neonatal unit. I read the Narnia series first then the Hobbit, LOTR and Eddings. I was initially more into Sci-fi reading Andre Norton and Anne McCaffrey, and progressed onto Fantasy. I would read more Sci-fi if I could find some I liked!!

I live in lovely Bavaria, on the countryside near Munich (everyone knows the Munich beerfestival?) At the moment I'm enjoying one of Bavaria`s best beers "Günzburger Radweizen".
I have two sons, a black english cat, a tiny tibetan dog and a husband.
I studied Religion and Philosophy and traveled a bit. In my youth. I've been quite a while around.
I'm working as a teacher for religion and ethics.
My first fantasybook was the hobbit. But I used to read everything, not just fantasy.
I real fantasy fan I got when I was living in England and working on my phD thesis.
There I read a lot of Edding, because as I explained somewhere else I had to identify with the unvincible hero overcoming monsters and incredible obstacles. It helped a bit.
Then I got hooked. I always need a little stash of Fantasy around.

Hi my name is Curtis and I am a newbie to this board. The first book I read that carried me protesting, albeit meekly, into the Fantasy Genre was the Dragon Lance series. But before that I stumbled across Ender's Game. I still have vivid recollections of that book.

I like to write fantasy becuase of my preoccupation with magic and the writer's (my) mastery over it.

My least favorite book type were the 'choose your own adventure' books. Frustrating to a fault.

PS:
Haven't read Tolkien. :-)
But Piers Anthony, the Xanth Series, and The Incarnations of Imortallity were my meat and bread once I ran out of DragonLance books to read. Anyone remember those?

I'm Mike and I'm 30, married and have two kids. My first fantasy book was, of course, The Hobbit. My best friend in High School got me into Fantasy for which I am forever greatfull. I am an avid book reader. If I don't have something to read I go crazy. It's probably about 75% Fantasy. I'm not really in to Science Fiction.
