I've only just noticed this introductary board, oh well:
I'm Chris, 20 originally from the South of England (Suffolk) but have lived in Scotland for about 10 years.
I first started reading fantasy when I was about 7 when my mum gave the Hobbit and then LOTR to read. I lapsed a bit when I was 16 (the call of the pub) but recently got back into reading with a bang after reading the Farseer series. God bless you, Robin Hobb.

My name's Tiffany, I'm 20, I work in a small bookstore in Calgary, AB, Canada and I volunteer at the SPCA when they need me. Give me a book and a dog and I'm a happy camper. I can't remember my first intro to fantasy. It's just always been part of my life, my Dad was reading me passages from his favorite novels before I could understand even half the words.

Well, here it goes! My name is Martin, and I'm from Gothenburg, Sweden. i've managed to become 23 years old. What got me started, well, I read Hobbit when I was ten, and followed it with some Kerr, Cooper, Nesbitt and so one. I read about everythingg that tere is to read, it's a slow week if I don't read one book.

Gary from New York City. I am a father of three, a husband and an author. My first readings were fairy tales - the Grimms brothers. As far as fantasy is concerned, the Chronicles of Narnia started me off. Then I read the Hobbit, and there was no turning back. It was nonstop from there.

hello, i'm julian and this is my friend sandy :p okay okay, that is a very obscure joke, don't worry about it. I'm 16 going on 17 from the uk, still at school. First fantasy was probably wind in the willows read to me when from i was too young to understand the words and it was the first book i actually myself (barring roger redhat etc) then it was probably narnia. First sci-fi was i think a star wars book then i moved on to proper science fiction.

I see I'm a *junior* member - having just discovered this site this morning - and promptly joined!
Which is kind of fun considering I'd run rings around you all when it comes to years.
I'm from the Gold Coast in Australia and I remember a time when fantasy did not exist. Oh, there were the odd books - like Tales from Narnia and The Hobbit - but that was it.
As a child, I had to content myself with every fairy story, myths and legends book I could lay my hands on.
Now, it's just so fantastic - so many books, so many authors all satisfying my need for fantasy.
And, no, I'm not going to tell my age - mostly becasue I don't want to know, either.
True story!!!

I just thought: My God...it's been a year since this thread started!
It must be the oldest active topic on this board?
So much happened since I sent this post last year: I moved to Berlin ... read many many new books thanks to your recommendations http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

...time goes by ..."seufz"... (Ntschotschi takes another zip of peppermint tea which is definately better for elderly people than ...BAVARIAN WEIZEN BEER...tear trickles down shrivelled cheek)

Umm I just felt like saying this ... and wanted to bring the topic back to the top.
