Hi Flammenweber,
I moved to Berlin now and I agree that the beer of the North especially Pils is better than in Bavaria. But it's still very hard to get decent Weizenbeer here.

Rare that I spend the time scrolling through a thread this large... but it was nice to get such juicy details on people I see around but never really get to know.

Somehow, I've always known that Ogg was short, fat and balding... but it was nice to have confirmation...

So I'll bore you a minute with my own insipid history... I had forgoten, but I guess my introduction into books was indeed fantasy... I read various Chronicles of Narnia around age six or seven... and I remember being hooked on those choose your own adventure books when I was about eight.

Upon adolescence I was fully enthralled with Stephen King... a few years later I discovered Koonts... from their I read hardley anything other than horror until recently.

My first fantasy was Wizards First Rule... I thought it was pretty good, despite minor annoyances, but then I found a virtual "Death to Goodkind" club on this board. I was taken aback, and moved on to Wolf in Shadow, which thoroughly rocked IMO

I took a break from fantasy for bout a month... but picked back up with "Black Sun Rising" and I have to say... If this is more the standard of modern fantasy, then I can see why SOT is frowned upon. (I used my first abbreviation!!)

Anyway... I don't often visit this board... I spend my time (as some may have noticed) in Writing, or General discussion... or T.V and Film... I simply have not read enough fantasy to know whats going on this side of the fencepost... but as for the oppertunity of introduction, I'm 24 goin on 45, yet perpetually stuck at 12... A native angilino (That's Los Angeles) and a lifelong musician... I started writing a short story two years ago... and only finished it december of last year... but then I had a burst of creative energy and have been pumping out a good 3 or 4 pages a day... most of it crap... but I sift through the debris and pull out a winner every now and then... five of my stories are posted here... and a short of mine has been published in April's issue of writershood.com (http://writershood.com) in the horror section.

Well, there you go. I read through it all, and I'm thinking that lurking in the shadows is only good for a while...
I'm Gabor, from Romania, living in England, bristol... I'm 19, and to tell you the truth, there was no ONE thing that got me hooked. I read fairy tales from grimm brothers, and some hungarian writers. I read the Conan Cronicles(at about 8, which were awesome). I don't like SF as a rule, but Aliens is my favourite book still... I read the Narnia books when I could hardly speak english 5 years ago, and then... English fantasy since. I started a book at about 16, and since then I wrote very litle, but I'm putting more attention into it.

Hello my name is Brad a 33 year old Plumber . I am married and a father of one very beautiful (almost two yrs) little girl .I live in a coastal town in New South Wales Australia .I actually hated to sit down and read until I turned 19 , ( hard to believe now) when I bought an Asimnov book 'Robots Of Dawn' and haven't stopped reading since .Why Fantasy ?, well I was looking for an adventure type story and a work mate recomended the 'HOBBIT' the rest is history . This is an excellent site because up until now I diddn't know anybody who read fantasy ,as for a favorite author it would have to be Feist , Jordan ,Kerr Jones , Tolkien...........etc.(haven't read a bad book yet)

Hello,
I signed up to the board a few days ago. My name is Jessica and I am 42 (woe)(thrice woe)(etc).

I have been enjoying the boards v much on and off. I have been addicted to fantasy from an early age starting with the Hobbit and CS Lewis (quelle surprise!). I was also somewhat indoctrinated by my elder sister who used to read me the stories she had written and - whoops! Now we are both novelists.

Neither of us is Stephen Donaldson, however.

I'm Jenny, 31 (as of today--aak), a grad student in molecular biology...and a wannabe writer.

I didn't really think of myself as a fantasy/sf fan until about 8 years ago. To me, all fiction is fantasy, in way. I would have to agree with a past post (I can't find that post again, so I don't know who gets credit for it--this is too long to re-read!) that my love for fantasy, and reading in general, began with fairy tales and Dr. Seuss. I was also delighted to hear that someone else had read "Black and Blue Magic" because I could never remember the name of that book! (I could remember that it was an undersized paperback and the picture on the front was of a boy with huge white wings.)

Later came The Hobbit, Narnia, etc. I also found a water-swollen paperback copy of "The Colour of Magic" in the gutter on my street when I was 10--I still have that book.

Among my favorite authors are King, Donaldson, Jordan, Goodkind :P , Williams, Herbert...and also whoever I happen to be reading at the time. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif I like a good story.

Hello. I'm a Finnish student who's been here from October last year, but rarely contributing, preferring to be silent.

My first fantasy book was Salvatore's Sojourn (I picked it up because of it's cover), and now I've enjoyed authors such as Donaldson, Hobb, Eddison, Cook, Kay, Kearney, Zelazny, Wolfe, Martin and so forth.

Hi guys, i am Dave, im 27 years old and married with no children and a real pesty dog. I am a police officer in a large city just outside Chicago Illinois USA. The first fantasy book i remember reading is the Belgariad by David Eddings, i read it while sitting sentry duty in the Army. I really enjoyed it and went on the read the whole series. I then went on the the Timothy Zahn Starwars books and have loved it every since.
