Hi my name's Simon and I live in Swansea, which is in Wales. I have been reading both fantasy and scifi since I was about 9 when I picked up a copy of The Hobbit which my mother had brought home. That was in the early 70's. There wasn't a whole lot of fantasy around then but I was lucky to discover Moorcock and then Julian May and Stephen Donaldson as they brought their series' out. Wow have things got better (quantity wise). I have been reading this site for a while and thanks to the guru that is Fitz I have recently read, PSS, Blade of Tyshalle and am now into Tyrants and Kings.

Welcome all!

Gelert, kissing up will only get you so far! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif (j/k ask dennizm). Seriously, glad I could point you to some good fantasy. Like your name, do you happen to be a fan of Irish Wolfhounds?

Names Paul Iam 30 and I live in Adelaide, South Australia. The first fantasy book I read was Queen of Sorcery by David Eddings . Then I read the first few Narnia books. But that was just School I don't think I realy became a fantasy Fan until a couple of years later when I read one of Steve Jacksons choose your own adventures.
I remember being more into Sci/Fi as a kid Heinleins young reader books

Fitz, glad you like my name. It is the name of a wolfhound but a Welsh one. Gelert was the hound of Llewelyn the last true prince of Wales.

Hi, my name's Miriam and I'm from Germany. My first book in this genre would be - what else could it be? - The Lord Of The Rings. Why Fantasy? Because there's no other bookworld where you have all themes together. Love, War, Crime, Adventure, Heros, Monsters, Power - It's all in Fantasy.
Can anybody tell a better way to run away from your daily stress at work, school, family?? *g*
I don't think so!

Miri - I think all of us fantasy authors/readers/freaks also really believe deep inside that anything is possible! Our belief in fantasy is different than simply relating to the worlds and characters. While avid readers of mysteries for example may imagine themselves to be Hercule Poirot, the stretch is not that great! Fantasy does take you to an altogether other world, but the love of it, I think, requires a bit of faith as well.

As another Welshman I am very pleased to see the Welsh nation well represented on these boards.
