Hi All,

I am 36 yrs old living in NY, USA. I have always been a bit of an escapist when it comes to reading. Midsummer Nights dream (I was too young to understand anything but the bits about the fairies) and Marvel comics were probably my first fantasy oriented reads.
My real introduction to the genre was receiving a copy of The Lord of the Rings trilogy as a gift. I think The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever really got me hooked. Also, introduced me to the agony of waiting for a new book to be published.
My faves are GRRM (cheeky grin), Cecila Dart-Thorton, Piers Anthony. Sara Douglass, Terry Goodkind and Robert Jordan are, also, high on my list but I have issues with some of their work.
I love reading what others post, because it makes me realise how much I still have to read. There are simply not enough hours in the day or nite.

Ok, now to the truth (sort of) My mistress is married, 2 adult children,(25, 26) She works for the IRS, (don't panic, she's only a clerk) her husband is with the post office as a Postmaster. She lives in Central California, near Fresno.

We both enjoy fantasy and some sci-fi, camping, majick, witchery, musick, and just hanging around doing little or nothing all day........carpe diem!

Ok, guess it's about time I put my $0.02 on this thread...

Chris, 28, aerospace engineer in Silicon Valley, CA. Also in school part time getting my MBA and MS in Engineering, so that eats into my reading time http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif Just married in September (9/9 to be specific...we were in Maui on 9/11), in the process of closing escrow on our first house http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif Got into fantasy when I read The Hobbit in 7th grade and have been a junkie ever since. I do read outside the genre (Clancy, Grisham, King, etc) and a smattering of sci-fi, but fantasy is my passion.

Favorite authors:

Tolkien
Jordan
Goodkind
Rawn
Clancy
King
Brooks
Williams

Have only read one of Martin's books, so I haven't really gotten into him yet...

I'm 23, from Windsor, Ontario, and I have a husband and a 3 year old daughter. My first fantasy book I think was A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L'Engle, which kind of scared my because I read it when I was quite young and I hadn't read anything like that before. Then I read the Chronicles of Narnia which I loved. The first "adult" fantasy I read was the Mists of Avalon, which I have to admit I did like although I've read a lot of much better stuff since.

i'm 17 and live in harrogate, uk. i first got into fantasy when i was 12. a friend lent me Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. i found it difficult at first, as i was quite young, but once i got into it, i never looked back. i have branched out into Feist, Eddings and others, but Hobb is still my favourite

31 year old general surgeon - just started my first job out of training! Married with two kids. Have always loved reading - fantasy, sci-fi, Clancy, King. Martin is probably my current favorite. Just started Elvenbane. Ok so far, not the greatest.

This seems like a good place to begin... to get the basics out of the way, I'm 19, living in New York City and attending school here (junior, double major in film and classical studies). Very happily involved with someone who loves sci-fi/fantasy as much as I do (our bookshelves are literally overflowing).

The books that started my love of sci-fi/fantasy were Madeleine L'Engle's _A Wrinkle in Time_ series, C.S. Lewis' Narnia books, and the classic Ray Bradbury books. A few years ago, I accidentally discovered Rosemary Edghill, and always have my eye out for books to read. Though, I'll read anything (a prerequisite for a classics major, as most are in either Greek or Latin!).

Hi all my name's Owen, I'm from Wales and I read a David Gemmell book in a sixth form library to escape punishment by the headteacher and though I was quite well read before, this really made me want to read sf&F again, Enders Game is the best book ever followed closely by Lion of Macedon and the Reality Dysfunction. See you on the boards :)
