Welcome Tearoom and SwordMaster. I started on Asterix & Tin-Tin comics too, as well as Doctor Who books. Now I love Feist, Tolkien, Jordan and Martin.

hello everyone,
i didn't say why fantasy, like a lot of people here i find it a great source for escapism..
but when I read esp..if its a really good book, I stop seeing/reading words and its like watching a movie in my head!
i don't want to sound crazy. but its such a buzz....its like watching lotr movie, but with every book i read, can't seem to do it with other genres, apart from SF...
does anyone else have this??
thanks

Hi im a 28 Y.O. male from London. I love all things 'unreal'. I also love strong built up character challenges.
So I enjoy fantasy, sci fi, dark surreal stuff, horrors, mythology, vamps, cyberpunk, anime, everything that has no limits. All those things that I feel really use someone imagination. There are no limits to these genres - none whatsoever. The only limits are an individuals mind. Any idea can become a reality, and i enjoy that freedom.
Strange thing is I am a very logical thinker in reality, with atheist tendencies, and I do not believe in anything IRL (ghosts, God, supernatural).

Hey, I am 18 and the first fantasy was The Hobbit and the first sci-fi was Dune: house Atreides I thought they were both really cool when I read them. Of course I have since read the original Dune by Frank Herbert, and rethought my opinion of The House Trilogy. I still like it just not nearly as much.
I think the reason why i like fantasy/sci-fi would be becuse it is just plain cool. To read about something that you know isn't true, and in the case of sci-fi, might some day be true, is just cool. With fantasy it would be that I just like all that magic and what not.

First post and it is a good tradition to introduce oneself with it.
Hi. Real name... I forgot. I am so used to being called Dae (not Dany) that my real name sometimes escapes me. I am 30 for another month or two. I have a nice white tomcat named Tom. I live in Holland (or Netherlands) and currently work in a bookstore. I have a subtly different taste in fantasy and sci-fi than most fans, prefering obscure authors and titles to well-known big names and series. Of course I read Feist, Jordan and Goodkind and they are entertaining, but names like Mary Gentle or David Gemmell are not well-known (well in Holland they are not). And I really really like them.
So that is basically it.

Good day! I can do this introduction thingy, even though I'm shy. :D My name is Will and I live in Ontario, Canada(not California)
The first book I ever read was Orion from Ben Bova. At the time I was a sci-fi nut and never even gave fantasy a thought. My first dip into the fantasy genre came when I read Night Mare by Piers Anthony. I was young at the time and this appealed to me. I didn't really get hooked onto fantasy though until The DragonLance Chronicles by Weis and Hickman. No looking back since then. I've kept every book I've ever read , and now have a collection approaching 800 novels. They're situated 3 deep right above my computer on a book shelf I made. I hope my carpentry skills are up to the task. :D If anybody can be considered an addict to reading, it's probably me. I read the Belgariad in five days.(yes the whole series) It's a good thing I don't like television.:)
Happy reading everyone!
