Kathi, 18, hisgh school student in the last year (yes, it's one year more here) from Northern Italy (it's called South Tyrol, bordering with Austria, and my mother tongue is German, not Italian).
First fantasy was, I think, the Narnia series. Then, unfortunately, I stuck to a German author for a long time, and now I feel that I have missed much - many of the books (even some authors) you discuss I have never heard about, though I 'work' hard to recover this! *smile*

Hey Liselle, if you`re refering to Wolfgang Hohlbein - I think he's a very good author. I think there are "even" English translations of his books.

Yes, it's actually Hohlbein; I consider him a great author, too, but I think one of the only books of his translated to English is 'Magog' (which I did not like nearly as much as others); I heard also that this one had not much success - and I can understand it because I especially like his style and this gets lost in a translation...

Sup folks... My name is Kevin. I started reading fantasy when i was 16.. I am 19 now and I go to Sam Houston State U. in Huntsville but I my home address is in innercity Houston, Tx.

My first fantasy books were the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings. Someone recommended them to me because they noticed I liked Dragons, Wizards, and other fantastical things. The Books that got me HOOKED on fantasy was DeathGate Cycle. A HS classmate of mine noticed me reading LoTRs and told me he had a better book that I would prolly like and enlightned me to the series. I loved it from start to finish and after that book I noticed this website and started getting recommendation from here..

Hello, I am Charles, Charlie, Chuck, or some people call me Bob (long story). I am 21, and right now I live in Auburn, Al, USA going to college at Auburn University and studying history.
The first fantasy book I probably read was The Hobbit, then I had a long absence from reading all together, but came back a few years ago and started with again that book, then LOTR, then Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and I have read many books since.

James (Or Jimmy or Jim or Jimbo or Jimbop. I've come across a large number of variants). I'm 19 years old and I live in Perth, Australia. I'm currently doing an arts degree, majoring in history at he University of Western Australia. I've been reading fantasy for ages now, I was kind of put omto it by my older brother who reads a lot of the stuff. The earliest fantasy stuff I recall reading would probably have to be the Narnia books and the Hobbit.

My name is Tobias, i'm German, 31 currently working on my PhD thesis in medival history, originaly from Bamberg, now living in Marburg. I started with the Hobbit and LOTR and like Ntschotschi got really into fantasy when living in England (I don't like Hohlbein at all). My current favoriets are Martin, Hobb and Kay.

Hey Barbarossa, it's no problem at all you don't like Hohlbein - after all, in this board nobody but us three knows him... :-)
