I dunno why I am posting this. But, who are you people? And what was your first book that pulled you into this genre?

Me? My name is Mike, 31, and I live in Calgary, AB, Canada. First Fantasy book, was The Hobbit. Wow, susprise eh? Big susprise is I didnt like it when I was in Grade 6.. So, I went out, and bought a scifi book called "The Ivanhoe Gambit" by Simon Hawke. Loved it.. Time travel book about a bunch of people go back in time to stop a terrorists from altering the timeline. This book took place in Robin Hood era. Funny, thinking about it, I may have to re-read some of those books.

First Fantasy.. Raymond Feist and Terry Brooks. Feist I remember because I bought it based on the cover alone. Had a wizard with a long pointed hat. Very typical. This was the jacket cover for the orginal print.. The cover has since changed. =)

That's all...

Why you nosey ba**ard http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif only j/k

My name is Dennis, I live in the UK, married <very>, 3 kids, collect 1:18 scale diecast cars, and books of course, about 75% of them Fantasy, and I love beer...(ahhhh beeeerrr)

I was first introduced to fantasy by a primary school teacher, who read out the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Silver Chair to the whole class. I nagged my mum and dad to get me the other books, and I was hooked!

Rob, married, 26, Jersey, USA.
(met my wife in Sciece Fiction Lit class in college, maybe that is a subconscious reason for liking the genre so much http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)
First fantasies were probably those "Choose Your Own Adventure" and "Magic Quest" books but what REALLY got me hooked was playing Dungeons and Dragons (the first edition from the late '70s) and the original DragonLance Chronicles.

I like 'Fantasy' more than 'SciFi.' Great escape from regular life, (usually) great characters.

I'm 24 and have been floating in the clouds since I can remember. My first fantasy books were probably C.S. Lewis's Narnia Chronicles which I read in elementary school. Probably the next couple of books to influence my taste were the Hobbit, and then The Hero and the Crown. I'm pretty much addicted now and try to sqeeze in as many books possible between semesters and breaks!

I'm from North Queensland Australia, and i'm 17 years old.

I read Guardians of the West(eddings) when i was 11, then found out it was number 6 in the series instead of number 1. I went back and read from the start of the series.
The reason i liked fantasy at first was when reading the prologue of GOTW i had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on because the names were so weird and the actions of the characters were so strange, but then after i finished the book I understood all the actions and names and it made me feel like i had learnt something better than just a stupid moral, I had leart to predict the actions of a imaginery culture.

Hi... well, I'm 15 (yes, I know I'm pretty young), and I live in Brisbane, Australia. And I'm happy as long as I have something to do, except on bludge days, which I think are essential...nothing like lying around, doing nothing!

I guess I've always been into fantasy and sci-fi (probably more of the former) ever since I was really little...I mean like grade 5 or 6 (that was when I was about 9 or 10). I read the series that included the Wizard of Oz...and then the chronicles of Narnia, all the time never realising I liked fantasy. I got into sci-fi later on, and it was only a year or two ago, after I read Anne McAffrey's Dragon series that I realised I like (sorry, loved) this genre.

LONG LIVE FANTASY/SCI-FI!!!

I'm 22 years old from Israel. My first fantasy book was The Hobbit, then i got the Dragonlance Chronicles and really got into fantasy.

I read almost only sci fi and fantasy and it helped me get through many long nights guarding in the israeli army (oops i guess i wasn't a very good guard) of whice i was released 6 months ago.
Try to read The Cold Fire Trilogy when you are guarding military place in the middle of the night, give the experience a whole new meaning.

I'm 30 years old and I live in North Carolina, USA. I'm married and have been for 5 years to an absolutely wonderful man who indulges my book habit. My first exposure to scifi/fantasy was Anne McCaffrey's Dragonsong. I found it in a desk in my fifth grade history class, and I was instantly hooked! I went on to devour any books in this genre I could find in the local public library as well as the school library. I discovered Norton, Heinlein, Asimov, Hubbard, Lewis, Cooper...and I soon ran out of library books. :-) I grew up in a very small town in Georgia. The highlight of my week was when my parents took us out of town to the mall and I could visit a Waldenbooks.
