I hope this isn't something that has been asked before, but I did some searching and couldn't find the answer so...

I have a science fiction story that my friend Holbrook suggested I should submit, but it will have to be broken up into parts. My question is: what is a good length (either page length or word length) for the parts?

Submitting in Chapters is probably the best way to go, and these should be no more than 15-20 pages max., if possible. Then, you can just submit each part through the submit page as normal, making sure you number the parts so we can process them in the correct order of course. :)

We would also prefer the submissions to be in Word.doc format or just plain text please.

Excellent. Yes it does help, thanks. Part of the problem is, for some reason, I didn't divide this story up into chapters as I wrote it so I wasn't sure how to break it up. With a 15 to 20 page range though it should be easy enough.
