Need help finding a book

Several years ago I read a book that I would like to reread but I cannot remember the name. The main concept of the book was you could pay someone to take your unsettling and disturbing dreams so you can get a good nights rest. It took place in the future where there were "smart appliances" but when they were disposed of they would flock together and roam the country side.

I can't remember the name for the life of me, any help would be much appreciated.

Was the author John Sladek?

I don't recall, that is one of the biggest problems. I just did a quick look at his work but nothing jumped out as the book I am looking for.

I don't think it was Sladek's The Reproductive System, but Sladek did come to my mind after I read your post.

Did your username "FlockofToasters," come from that book?
