Robert Jordan died in 2007 whilst working on what was planned to be the final volume in the series, although he had prepared extensive notes so another author could complete the book according to his wishes. Fellow fantasy author and long-time Wheel of Time fan Brandon Sanderson was brought in to complete the final book, but during the writing process it was decided that book would be far too large to be published in one volume, and would instead be published as three volumes as large as, or larger than, any previous book in the series. The first volume was published in 2009 under the title The Gathering Storm.[2] The final two books are called Towers of Midnight and A Memory of Light and are planned to be published in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Here's the latest news:

Distinctions the Towers of Midnight prolouge will go on sale 21 September 2010.
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass.
What was, what will be, and what is,
May let fall under the Shadow.

Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time.

In the Prologue to Towers of Midnight, book thirteen of The Wheel of Time, Lan Mandragoran rides on toward death; Perrin Aybara, Lord Goldeneyes, has a disturbing dream; Galad leads the Whitecloaks into harm’s way; one who has left humanity behind creeps through the Blight; and the Blight border faces invasion.

The Towers of Midnight book trailer was released at DragonCon. View it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apJJ0NzOXEg&feature=player_embedded).

You can also view the "Making (http://vimeo.com/14592334)" of the Towers of Midnight tralier.

Sanderson also did a reading from the Prologue at DragonCon.

SPOILERS!!

The gist of it from Terez (http://www.theoryland.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=3862) was this:

1. Lan is riding across Saldaea alone. By the end of his scene, he has a friend (Bulen, from New Spring), and there is news of more gathering in Kandor. Lan is still determined to avoid others, riding to the Gap alone.

2. Galad and his men are lost in a swamp. As they come out of the swamp, they run into Asunawa, who has 10,000 fresh troops to Galad's 7000 exhausted ones. The scene ends with Galad taken for questioning by Asunawa and being beaten until he passes out, but Asunawa agreed to his terms. Looking like Byar and Bornhald will probably ally with Perrin to get Galad out of this trap. Also, Galad has plans to go to Andor.

Also, he skipped over one POV because it was very long and he said very cool, and he skipped over another because it was 'incredibly spoilerish'.

I only recently discovered the new cover artwork for the e-book editions (http://www.tor.com/blogs/2009/10/wheel-of-time-on-torcom#ebooks). Each cover is illustrated by a different fantasy artist.

I think they should re-release the paperbacks with this new cover art as well. I think many hardcore WOT fans would be willing to re-purchase the books, considering the original Daryl K. Sweet artwork is pretty unpopular.

I think they should re-release the paperbacks with this new cover art as wellThey most likely will once the series is complete. Personally I prefer the Sweet art for EoTW and aCoS. The others are pretty good though with tGH, tSR and CoT being the best.

By the time the series is finished, I will probably get around to trying it out for the first time. I don't know why, but I never did get around to trying out WoT in my first fling with fantasy, and I have yet to rectify that mistake since returning to the genre.

The series is so huge, and has impacted the genre so much, that even if I don't end up really caring for the books much, I will still see it through to the end. For this genre, outside of LOTR, I don't know if there is anything bigger than WoT.

Be wary of spoilers!

Brandon Sanderson and TOR are running something they call The Great Hunt (http://www.tor.com/blogs/2010/08/the-way-of-kings-holds-a-secret-from-the-wheel-of-time). BS is hiding bumper stickers with codes on them while he's on tour promoting The Way of Kings, and those codes can be entered here (http://www.brandonsanderson.com/thegreathunt) to eventually reveal what looks like either a chapter from Towers of Midnight, or maybe a 'deleted scene'. The codes are most likely chapter titles from ToM, and so far 12 of them have been found (or guessed by fans):

1. Questions of Leadership
2. The Pattern Groans
3. Questioning Intentions
4. Lighter than a Feather (Guessed)
5. Blood in the Air
7. An Unexpected Letter
8. An Empty Ink Bottle
10. Use a Pebble
21. Into the Void (Guessed)
24. The Right Thing (Guessed)
25. An Invitation (Guessed)
32. A Reunion (Guessed)
The codes can be guessed by typing a possible chapter title into the field on the encrypted page, but you only get 5 tries each hour (trying more resets the clock to one hour from your last attempt). Theoryland has a list of most of the wrong guesses so far here (http://www.theoryland.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=3851), and more information on the hunt itself and the found codes can be found here (https://docs.google.com/View?docID=dcjspjqg_881z2xd56fn&revision=_latest). There is also a list of every chapter name in the series here (https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AhXP9kAnAdJldEZoakZVVllHVmc5cmE0YkducXRXd 1E&hl=en#gid=0).

With the last codes found it has been revealed that the encrypted page will most likely deal with Mat, Thom and Tuon, as those are the names that are visible at the moment.

The others are pretty good though with tGH, tSR and CoT being the best.I really like the new covers for TDR and WH. Also, I agree that the new EoTW cover is pretty bland/boring.

I'm surprised this thread isn't busier, with the new book coming out in less than two months and people rereading.

Is anyone else annoyed by the accusations of Sanderson and TOR selling out by splitting the books? Now, I haven't gotten to The Gathering Storm yet (am waiting on ToM if not AMoL), but from all accounts it's pretty packed full of stuff, and the biggest complaint I saw was that it was "too fast paced" (even though it's 700+ pages).

And let's be honest, if Jordan was still alive he'd probably take at least to book 15 or 16 to wrap it up even if wanted to do otherwise (that's just the way he wrote, pacing wise.)

Honestly, I found the Gathering Storm to be incredibly refreshing after working through the swamp that was the last couple books. I did find it somewhat short for a 700 page book, if that makes any sense, but i didn't feel robbed or anything in that direction. What bugged me most was the artwork on the cover:

Blech. Look at that. I can't even tell who the woman is supposed to be.
