I'm just curious where everyone gets the majority of the books they read. Myself, I used to always get them from the bookstore where I worked, but since I quit there I've been ordering them over the Net, it's easier than taking a trip to the mall when I already know what I want.

I try to get them at the bookstore, if at all possible. If I can't I buy them on amazon. It saves on shipping costs to go to the store and you get to pick the best conditioned books at the bookstore. I don't like when you get a book that has a couple pages bent or a small portion of the cover is ripped. Or something like that.

I like getting my books from a bookstore. It is sort of like a big treasure hunt! :D
Hmmmm...does finding adventure in browsing for books mean I lead an otherwise boring life, or that I find adventure in odd places?

Well I get mine from the book shop mostly, but I rarely buy them at full price.
Since I have the grocery shopping to do every week anyway, I take the opportunity to check out every bookshop in sight and look through their "cheapie" tables - 3 for $10(OZ). (There has to be some upside to grocery shopping after all ;) ). I have my trusty list on hand wherever I go, to make sure I don't double up, and spend many happy minutes a-hunting. :D
I only have the patience to do this because I nearly always get the books from the library first - to see if I like them. Then if I enjoy them, I add them to my hunting list.
Unfortunately, I can only mark one spot on the poll, so I'm in a dilemma. Library.........bookshop...........library........ .....bookshop

Yes Talaith, I know what you mean! I love spending time in a book store. I can spend hours in it, just flipping through books and badgering the staff about upcoming books and how soon they will have them, ect. It is so adventuresome! I'm waiting for the day when they kick my from the Barnes and Noble for Loitering. I'm waiting...

If I'm down at the local shops I usually drop into my local Collins. They have SF&F book club and for every $200 spent you get a $10 voucher. Better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick...

You want to try Dymocks as the amount of the vouchers goes up exponentionally with every $100 you spend.
I get my recomendations form the net and then head out to my local bookstore.

KMart - books are already 10% discounted so I try and wait for the 15% store wide sales (25% discount ) . Whoever does the book purchasing in our local store must read fantasy because there is always a good selection to choose from( I'm not really tight fisted but when books are AUS$18.95 it can be a little draining on the budget )

We get 35% off at K-Mart Albury, but the selection is about as good as a Gerry Rafferty cd.

I always feel bad buying a book from K-mart as I feel like i'm not supporting a real bookstore. Book prices in Australia though really have gone through the roof though which really sucks. I want to buy Anne McCaffreys latest book in Catteni sequence but it's like $45 in all the stores i've checked. I'll have to buy the damn hardcover cause I have the other three:(.
