In my youth I recall reading a SciFi (juvenile) novel about using a flying boat as a spacecraft. The concept was very like what Virgin is doing now, only it was a one piece rig, like an amphibious aircraft.

The story was of a period similar to Rocket Ship Galileo. My recall was it was two boys who accompany a male adult. Can't recall passed that.

Any of you who can remember back that far, or who are fans of the early SciFi that can give me memory prod, thanks in advance.

Could it be The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet by Eleanor Cameron?

No, not her. It would have been a novel a little more toward the hard science fiction end of things. I guess I should have indicated more of a teen book rather than a child's book.

Now I have to hang my head in shame as, until your post, I had never heard of Cameron - how typically Canadian, eh? We typically don't know our own.
