Anyone tried Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" series? Not sure if they qualify as fantasy but they be good.

I've read the first four and I enjoyed them. I like the artwork spattered throughout, and I like the nice quirky plots. Not exactly a challenging read, but fun stuff.

My wife loves this series of books and has been getting on me to read them for a while. I'll probably get to it this summer. She is anxiously awaiting the next volume.

My sister has the first one in the series but I always thought that they were written just for children. However, after reading your posts I'll think again and borrrow them :)

I read the first book, and it was enjoyable, but nothing that great. The only reason I bought it was that it was 60% off. I've only seen them available in hardcover and at $10 a book, it isn't worth it.

I heard these are childrens books that actually have unhappy endings, is this true? Sounds odd, but I'm intrigued...

The endings aren't unhappy, but the main plot is unresolved and the villain always gets away. Bad things do happen to the characters though.

But they are worth one or two books. I enjoyed the one I read, but I found it easy to stop after one. What I *can* recommend are the later audiobooks, performed by Tim Curry.

The book design is brilliant though.

Well, the stories are entertaining, but I found it difficult to force myself to read them. His writing is boring. If you plan on seeing the movie, don't read any of the books until after.
