Jennifer Rardin, RIP

Hobbit
September 22nd, 2010, 05:14 PM
Orbit are reporting (http://www.orbitbooks.net/2010/09/22/jennifer-rardin/) that Jennifer Rardin, author of the Jaz Parks Urban Fantasy novels, died unexpectedly on September 20th.

Cause is as yet unknown. Jennifer was a ridiculously young 45.

Our thoughts go out to her family.

It is always sad to lose someone so young. I hope the best for her family as well.

I'd not heard of her books until I saw that news, but it's still very much a shame and a loss to the world of fantasy. My thoughts are with her family during this hard time.

In a strange way it's sadly funny to read her blogs right up until the end.
I found myself thinking, now you've got three weeks to live, then two, then one, and how could have you known that you'd be dead in three days.

Sort of reminds me of a short story I read some months ago, written by Richard Matheson and I think it was called Disappearing Act... it ends with a man sitting at a corner table at a coffee shop hurriedly writing a letter; he's at the end of his rope because things in his life have been vanishing as if they never existed, so he writes it all down. He makes an offhand remark about his cup of coffee and the story ends mid-sentence.

Metaphorically speaking, I hope I don't die mid-sentence.

RIP Ms.Rardin.

What a coincidence - I read that yesterday. Excellent story.

It's always sad when someone dies young, and each death is its own unique tragedy. But when an author dies young, as a reader I can't help but wonder about all the stories she had yet to tell and now never will :(

I recently been looking into trying her series, so this comes to a surprise. Any new details on how she died?

For those curious about the status of the Jaz series, here's a tidbit I got from Dave Brendon's blog:
According to her website, book seven in the Jaz Parks series will be out in November, and the final book, which Jennifer completed, will be out in June 2011. Right now, and for some time to come, let’s miss her and remember her.

I reviewed the first (http://www.sffworld.com/brevoff/410.html) back in 2007, and keep meaning to go back to the rest.

Thought it was good and a lot better than some Urban Fantasy at the time.

Yes. When I heard she had passed away suddenly I checked her blog and you see a regular life, just posting updates of where she's been recently, pictures and everything, no gloomy reports, and then suddenly ...................

Somehow I always feel the need to find out exactly what happened to someone.
