This is the first of two voting threads for the September 2010 Flash Fiction Contest. You may cast up to three votes total, not three per thread. You are of course not obligated to cast all three votes if that is your wish.

Voting will continue until September 30th, at which point our literary overlord for October will be crowned. Good luck everyone!

Okay. On this thread, I voted for Home or Bust by marshwriter because the ending was so sweet, and Apologia by B5 because I couldn't stop thinking, "What would Hitler do?" Good stuff.

I wish I had 20 or so votes to vote for everyone. It takes incredible courage to put your stuff out there for others to judge, and I think everyone did a fine job. :)

What's with three votes cast and three stories having '50%' of the vote?

Or is that percentage doing something else and I'm making a presumption?

Edit to clarify: DailyRich - what I meant was there were three votes in this thread, when I posted, and all three stories said "50%". Which is 150% of the vote as I figure it.

And now there are like five votes and the percentage now totals, say 175%. So what's going on there? 2/ 7 is 28% and 1/7 is 14ish %, which if you totaled those, you'd get 100%. 2/7*2+1/7*3 =1. That's what I mean. The threads aren't communicating, but the total doesn't work right by me even within the threads. Noticed that last month but didn't ask.

Edited again: Is it saying % of voters voting for the story? That seems to be what's going on. There are four voters so far, and the stories that have two votes, well, two of four voters voted for, so that's 50%. Is that what the percent represents?

Yet another edit 9/27: I voted for "The Burden of Command," here. Haven't voted on the other, trying to decide if voting for myself is in poor taste. I do have two I like other than mine...

All my votes have gone to Thread B :

"Shoreline's Dream" - for being so unusual and strangely touching

"On The Job Training" - for being such fun, and making me laugh

"A Hill To Die On" - seriously DR, why aren't you writing bestsellers?? :)

It's per poll -- the Thread A poll doesn't know what the Thread B poll is doing.

Voted for:

Home or Bust, even though it was sad ending.
Maurder in the murk: loved this one.

For me the first two were easy.

'A Hill to Die On', by DailyRich, because as others have alluded to, he has the mad skills of a published author.

'Shaila's Demise', by Taramoc, because he tried something different and I think it worked brilliantly. It was the only one here that I read more than twice.

The last one was more difficult because there were quite a few that I fancied. In the end I decided on 'Of Hogs and Chicks', by expatrie.

Congrats everyone, I'm glad the FF is getting more popular every month!

A tough vote this month as so many stories were right there at the same level for me for diferent reasons.

In the end I went with Home or Bust, The Burden of Command and Of Hogs and Chicks. They all evoked an emotional response from me and that is what I want from a story. As I said though there were a number of other potentials and it made for a hard decision. Great work all. After a couple of months away from the FF I am looking forward to getting back into it with the the next one but also a little anxious. Crap there is a lot of great stories being written. Making it hard for a hack like me to compete.

Choices, choices, choices...

After much debating, I decided to vote for Apologia, because of it's delightful absurdity, On The Job Training because it was funny, had a great ending and was just simply well written, and Per Se for being a fun tale of revenge.

what a prolific month with lots of good reads. I eventually went with Apologia, The Burden of Command and Shaila's Demise.
