I am an big fantasy fiction reader, who loves reading series. I want to try reading some Sci-fi, but cannot find a good starting point. I was wondering if there are some good technology focused sci-fi series or just single books out there that you would all recommend.

Try the WebMage series by Kelly McCullough (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_McCullough). Has a computer technology focus with enough fantasy and magic (Greek Gods) to enjoy both.

One of my favorites.

OK I will have to check it out. How many books are in the series?

I would suggest James P. Hogan and Charles Sheffield.

The Two Faces of Tomorrow by Hogan

Cold As Ice by Sheffield

Hogan has a Giants series but It has been a LONG time since I read any of it and don't recall the degree of emphasis on technology.

CAI has a sequel Dark As Day which was decent but not quite as good as CAI.

But both of these authors tend to be rather techy.

it's been some years [10+] since I read them but I remember the Eon books by Greg Egan as having a lot of technological [and theoretical physics] details. As did the Ringworld books by Larry Niven. some awesome space constructs there.

The first one is WebMage. There are 5 in the series.

I took a look at that. A goblin that can turn into a laptop?

What is meant by technology focused? I tend to assume it means plausible realism.

The Web Mage series is an intriguing blend of fantasy and technology. It involves the Greek Gods in the modern era copying mankinds technological innovations like laptops and web servers and using fantasy equivalents.

The main character is a minor member of the deities who is a superb hacker. But Hades has a hell of a firewall... :)
