Movie Scores.

And I'm not talking about the "from and inspired by" type! :D

I love listening to movie scores at work - it helps distract me enough from thinking, that I can work without wanting to be elsewhere doing things of my own.
... Most of the time!

But sometimes I put one on just to daydream "scenarios", I find the emotive sound very inspiring!
Jerry Goldsmith (13th Warrior) and Hans Zimmer (The Peacemaker, Gladiator) are two of my favourite composers and Howard Shore's "Lord of the Rings" has been my most recent favourite soundtrack.
I think I have a thing for dramatic "foreign language" male choirs, trumpets, and drums! And the voice of Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator) :)

I have many others that I'll play, depending on mood - 5th Element is pretty good, Poledouris's "Conan" is a classic and I love Danny Elfman's Edward Scissorhands/Batman Returns ("Music for a darkened Theatre II")
But the Goldsmith/Zimmer/Shore combo is my current favoured playlist :)

Who else loves movie scores then?

One of my favorite movie scores that I listen to often is Mark Knoffler's Princess Bride soundtrack.

Someday I'll get the score to FOTR. Haven't bought a movie score in a long, long time. I remember listening to the Star Wars soundtrack over and over as a kid.

FOTR, because of Enya. Also Sweet November has a really good Enya song - Only Time.

I love the soundtrack to Braveheart and also Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

The FOTR soundtrack is pretty good too.

Movie soundtracks are IMO a great thing to listen to when you're writing--the music conjures up pictures in your mind and stimulates your imagination, without distracting you with words.

Yes! I don't mind words if they're like a choir, or in a language I don't understand, but it's distracting if there is speech I recognise.
Also another thing about movie scores is that they don't follow a rigid 4/4 pop beat, it's more of a flow IMO.

John Williams has written the music for the Star Wars movies (or at least Attack of the Clones, I think).
His music is one thing which is good about them. Imagine them, or other science-fiction movies, without music !
You should listen to his symphony "The Planets".

I definately liked John William's score for Empire Stikes Back. You can feel the evil in it. Truly great.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
. . . those are among my favorites.

But there are a lot more movie scores that are quite good.
