Lost Regiment series by William Forstchen

Any opinions about this series? The premise sounds interesting, and the reviews at Amazon are mostly good (but then again, they usually are). Before getting into an 8-book series, however, I'd like to get some opinions here. Also, are the books more or less standalone or it is just one single story divided into 8 books?

Thanks!

I started this post looking for books like sword of truth with main characters like richard and kahlan but somehow it's gone off kilter.

I read 4 of wheel of time it was good but not as good imo.

I just finished brent weeks Night Angel trilogy now that was more like it with main characters even dying. I think it was kind of rushed at the end and could have been streched into 4 books but it was almost as good as sword of truth.

Im still looking for books like that if anyone has an opinion Id love to hear it. I wrote down everyone's suggestion and am going for my next series. Please give opionions on books like sword of truth and even night angel trilogy.

Thanks

I read it a long time ago. It does have an interesting premise, but the story line is somewhat repetitive. The regiment has better technology, but they're facing overwhelming odds. The natives are scared but willing, so it becomes a battle of attrition.
It's too bad that ALL the books seem to share that same theme. It reminds of Honor Harrington in that sense, or anything by David Weber.

Is this series related or similar to Turtledove's Videssos Cycle also known as the Lost Legion series?

I don't think it has any resemblance to Turtledove's story other than a misplaced military unit. There's no magic in Lost Regiment, and the soldiers are from a Civil War era unit, so the technology is industrial age with gunpowder, cannon, railroads, etc.
