Greetings. Has anyone seen this gem of a film? Ok, maybe some of you have seen it, but a gem? you ask?...More like a polished turd? I dug this cheesy fantsay'epic'. I first saw this on Showtime wayyyyy back when I was a teenager and very much into AD&D. And it has Jack Palance as the bad guy. What more could you ask for?? Here is a link to IMDB for Hawk The Slayer, if y'all are interested:

Yes... just one shining example of what was usualy a load of dross in movie fantasy at the time...

I was totally blown away with the sharp/rapid arrow firing elf... makes Legolas look like an amature :D , Breslaw was brilliant as the giant....

The other movie I like from this era is The Beastmaster, with Marc Singer in the lead role...

Hmmm. Where I'm from we call that coincidence.:p ;)

Although I do remember that movie, and sort of liking it...

I was much more into The Beast Master, and Willow... Beast Master was on T.V. just a week or two ago. Boy, did that movie blow... (by modern standards)

I must admit I guiltily like HAWK even if I have grown weary of seeing Palance as a hissing baddie!I liked it better than BEASTmaster....boy was Marc Singer old, wrinkly and ugly looking! Actually, in the late 80's my friends and I went searching for el-cheapo fantasy movies to watch. Cream of the crop were:
THE BARBARIANS. (two muscley tiwns called Kuchek and Gor fight to save their tribal queen Canary from Richard Lynch!) Best of the bunch with classic lines like 'bring on the virgins!'
THE DEATHSTALKER series. One character, 3 different actors, all very tongue in cheek. First one s&S/soft porn, the later ones becoming more humouous with an altogether weedier, wisecracking hero.
ATOR THE FIGHTING EAGLE series with Miles O'keefe as the model like, cheek bone sucking shirtless hero in fuzzy boots. Fights a giant spider that never moves. In later movies has a hang gliding scene!

My personal favorite is The Princess Bride. Sure it's low on the Cheese-o-Meter, but it still holds a place in my heart...
