Ok everyone, sieze your "The Great Hunt" second books of WoT and check out the artwork on the cover. Now I'm not knocking on Darrel Sweet's ability here, I really really like his art, but is that.........elf........holding a book in the crook of his arm, with the green coat, supposed to be Loial?

Well thats one big fat looking elf. Yes it's supposed to be Loial. On my Orbit hardcover of "The Great Hunt" I have a non Sweet dustjacket the only Orbit one that differs from Tor. In that all the people look like elfs and Loial just looks like an extra large one. There is also a huge frog on the back??

Hrrm, on my book, he's really skinny, and the same size as rand...and his face is basically just a human face with elf ears

Ugh. Wheel of time covers make my bum twitch. I dig the books (well, most of them), but the covers are eye sores. I'm really not into most fantasy art. I like about 10% of it . . . if that.

But every once in a while, we'll get some eye candy. For example, Dave Mckean illustrated the new Gaiman book, Coraline. Mckean is one of my favorite artists. I can't wait to get my mitts on that one.

Here's a link to the cover, for those of you who are interested:

that always bugged me, that loial. itsnt he supposed to have like huge dangly eyebrows and stuff? maybe it wouldve worked if he was in the back, but in the front, he should have been even bigger.

and on lord of chaos, is that fifty year old man with an interestingly wrong proportioned body supposed to be rand? he seems to grow uglier and uglier every cover.

caldazar, that frog is probably a grholm or whatever.

It's a bit disappointing that cover art is only loosely based on the subject matter. Artists interpretation aside, they should be told that certain characters are supposed to look a certain way.

Looks like Mat on the cover of Great Hunt, although I don't think the Great Horn looks right either. Rand looks the same on all the other covers.

And what's with those dudes on the back covers lurking in the distance. Don't look like Trollocs.

However, I do like the covers. Callandor looks great in hardback. And Eye of the World cover is cool. Lan and Moiraine look great.

I think there was a thread on here not too long ago where we talked about cover art, in particular Sweet's.
His old stuff wasn't too bad, but his more recent stuff has gone down the tubes, as seen by the WOT covers.
