The Oct '10 Flash Fiction Voting Thread

Pages : [1] 2 3 4 5

Accept no substitutes.

As I said before, the genres are filled with people who are not human (and humans that are not people, but that's another story.) Show solidarity with your alien brothers--vote.

In this particular contest there are fewer entries, a single voting thread, and it would make sense to allow fewer votes. But I am B5. You can vote for as many stories as you want. (Please refrain from voting for them all--that's the easy way out.) Good luck to all. Thanks for your participation.

Also: Please sticky.

The voting process makes sense. If all of your books were on the shelf of a local book store I could buy one or buy them all, or anything in between. (We will ignore my usual cash on hand situation.) This voting thread is more like real life.

This might be interesting.

Holy crap. You mean I can vote for them all? Dude! :D I'm not sure if I should kick or kiss you. On the one hand, I've always wanted to be able to vote for all the ones that I liked, but on the other hand, I'm used to eliminating those that don't stick with me, but they all stick with me, really, oh...

B5 - you got to limit the vote. I'm serious. It usually takes me all of 5 seconds to make my decision. I'm going on three minutes now and it is killing me. I ended up with all of 'em (except my own, of course). Help!

I will return...

A twelve sided die does wonders for indecision. :)

This is totally off-topic, but I always thought a rating system could work good, where every story is rated one to five by each voter. Then, at the end the ratings are tallied and a winner is announced based on the total votes received.

I thought it could not only determine a winner but also give people valuable feedback at the same time. Plus it encourages every entry to be read carefully.

I'm not too sure how this vote will go, it's certainly intriguing and I expected no less from you MrBF1V3.

I liked "Painting Aliens" although it could use a better title. Reminded me a touch of a Haldeman short out of None so Blind involving a painter. Not too sure there's any more association other than the protagonist, but it reminded me and thought I'd mention.

As to the one to five stars, I rate the threads, am I the only one doing that?

NB: I do not rate the threads that make the young girls sing. That's some other dude.

Oh, and odd questions - what is the percentage on the right, I asked last month, too. It's what, percent of people voting for the story in question? Wouldn't recoding that to percent of votes make more sense?

And, where does this thread go? I haven't seen the old poll from September but I haven't gone looking for it, but the poll threads seem to disappear, or do I just not know where to look? Never mind, I found it.

I went with Knock Knock, the Upside of the Hive Mind, and of course, I voted, like any good politician, for myself.

I always forget about the thread ratings...we should use those.

In regards to Micky's suggestion, wouldn't it be horrible though if yours was the one that got 1 star? Isn't it bad enough when one gets no votes? I don't mean to pander to folk's egos, but the thing is that many of our egos are emaciated things that are ready to waft away on a passing wind. (Who's passing wind?!) The idea is to learn how and encourage writers to write well.

As far as attention to each entry goes, if you want me to tear your piece apart, I will gladly do it - but I've been asked not to do that, so I offer my wimpy comments. I'll put it out there again, if you want me to go through your piece with a fine tooth comb, PM me and I'll do it - publicly or privately. Of course, I have no idea what I'm doing, but you are more than welcome to take me up on the offer. :D

For a moment I had seven boxes checked. Bugger! I am now stepping away to give it a moments thought.
