Hey all I'm Finnishing up the Night Angel Trilogy and have decided my next read will be Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy. So I wanted to see how the Badass fighter from those novels would hold up against some that I have read. So in a 3 way death match between these three who do you think would win? who would fall first?

Of course Tomas gets his Valhuru Armor Durzo gets the black ka'kari and well I havent read first law yet but Logen Gets what every special power armour or what ever if he has anything.

I love the world and the characters Abercrombie has created. It gritty, raw and in your face. He writes in an aggressive style. The battle scenes are money. Have fun man!

I haven't read very many fantasy novels (which is a fact that I am working to quickly remedy). So, I apologize if this is an especially ignorant question, but who is Tomas? I have read the First Law & Night Angel Trilogies, but not whatever work(s) that this Tomas appeared in.

Thanks I should The First Law Books seem to be in high regard here. On what to read next for me it came down to The First Law books or the Malazan books.

I decided to go with Abercrombie's works because they seem a bit more approchable. And i heard the Mazalan books tend to drop off in quality after the first 5 or so. Although i have heard he has some pretty awesome charecters in his books. I know there are a lot of charecters in his series but typically how many does he focus on in each novel?

I read GRRM first book and could not really get into it. For one of two reasons either there were too many POV or the lack of magic users. (So that was my worrie wit Erickson.) I have the second book is there more magic in GRRM second novel?

He Was in Raymond E Fiests Serpent war Saga I belive it was Called... It thought they were good books. But If you are interested i would read the Riftwar saga first which starts with Magician: apprentice.. Very good book Many consider it Fiests best work

Thanks for the reply donny531. After hearing about them around here, I actually ordered Magician: Apprentice & Magician: Master and they arrived earlier this week. They're among my choices of what to read next. No matter what, I'll get to them soon.

I definitely enjoyed The First Law Trilogy, and the follow up, Best Served Cold. I don't consider the trilogy perfect, but I think that there is quite a lot to like about it, and the writing improves with each volume imo. I don't remember exactly how many characters are in it, there is a good mix between main characters and those who are supporting characters, but they're broken up into different groups and most are very distinctive, so I had little trouble in keeping (almost) everyone straight.

I think that one of Joe Abercrombie's strengths is that he writes very memorable characters, so I'd say that the books are definitely approachable. He sometimes posts here at sffworld too and he seems like a real good guy, so that's another reason to recommend him.
