What is a spoiler?

The Lord of all Things Inane

What is a spoiler? And what is NaNoWriMo? I am new to the wonders on the internet, I mean, I fooled around on a computer a little bit 10 or so years ago, but I see abbreviations and acronyms all over the place. I know it is difficult to imagine a low tech in this day and age, but, here I am!
Thanks.

A Spoiler is something that gives away an important plot point or twist in a story. Warning someone that a post or a message contains spoilers gives the reader who hasn't yet read the story, watched the film, or whatever, a chance to avoid accidentally learning something that might spoil his enjoyment of that story.

NaNoWriMo is an annual (November) novel writing project that brings together professional and amateur writers from all over the world.

And to avoid them doing any damage, be courteous and use spoiler tags! Here it's generally accepted to get away with not tagging them in dedicated topics (Such as the Book of the Month topics), but when it's a topic like "Reading In..." then we try to use spoiler tags when referencing events in the book, both minor and major.

They're done by [*spoiler*]Text here[*/spoiler*], but without the asterisks.

Thank you both, I tend to ask questions alot, and I appreciate the answers. National Novel Writing Month. I was wracking my brain to figure it out.
Spoilers, that is a great idea. Thanks again.

'Racking my brain'? What?

- oh, I remember... thinking!

(Note for younger readers: 'Thinking' is something us ancients used to do before Google. And yes, it used to hurt. But it was fun. I miss not knowing stuff.)

Too funny! Don't worry though, Junk Monkey, i don't know enough for all of us. What I don't know could encircle the globe in a cloud of ignorance.
I love your stories, by the way.
