Rothfuss has completed the novel (http://thewertzone.blogspot.com/2010/11/its-done.html) and handed it into his publishers. The novel is now locked in place for publication on 1 March 2011. ARCs should be dispatched in the near-ish future.

I think this will be the book with the biggest magnifying glass over it coming out next year. Sure, we have Martin's release, but he's quite the establish author already and hard to see a substantial amount of readers turning on him if the next installment bombs.
But, after all the hype with Rothfuss after one book, it'll be interesting to see if he can deliver for a 2nd time. On that regard, I can sympathize with him for taking his time, it really is an important release for him. Regardless, I think the way he has used his blog has earned him quite a following that will stick with him regardless.

Where is that quote from? I checked Martin's "Not A Blog" and I don't see it there...
It probably refers to filming or the Wild Cards book he was editing?

Until you have an arc in your hand Werthead, I ain't believing any of it ;).
I haven't really followed the trials and tribulations of the imminent/not imminent publication of the books, as I realise it must be a lot of pressure for one person to take. But I did buy a copy for a friends birthday a year ago, forgot, and then he mentioned at his last birthday that he had hoped this year I'd have bought him the sequel...I felt guilty!

Amongst the most long-awaited books in the fantasy genre, ADWD is #1, Wise Man's Fear is #2 and The Republic of Thieves is #3. Don't think anything else is up there, except maybe Rawn's Captal's Tower which she isn't even writing at the moment and probably never will. Maybe A Memory of Light in a few months once everyone's digested the last book, but even then that'll not be that long. So yeah, that's what I was referring to.

Yeah, does anyone know the status of Republic of Thieves? I have a serious aversion to uncompleted series, and I am starting to wonder if Lynch is going to turn into the new GRRM...

The first draft was completed and handed in about a year ago. There's been several more drafts and then a set of extensive revisions. What state that's left the book in is unknown, but Gollancz and Bantam both seem reasonably confident of the late spring/early summer date, although neither have set a finalised date yet.

Good to hear that. I hope this means that Scott will be able to concentrate on the final two volumes of the series soon. I have heard really great things about his books and look forward to reading them.
