Can anyone help me please?

I read a couple of (I am assuming) Sci-fi books and acn sort of remember only vague things but can remember that I enjoyed them (I have an awful memory), I do remember one of the characters names was Chas Goodnight.

Sorry for being so vague but was wondering if anyone would know.
