I went and did a search and wasn't able to find another thread about this, hopefully I didn't miss one.
Ok so anyway, I'm Australian and I'm a bit ashamed to admit I haven't really read any Australian Fantasy apart from Isobelle Carmody and Liane Hearn's Otori series. I was looking to read some more aussie authors, help the local talent and such ;). I decided to start up this thread just as a little place to find some info but also for a little bit of discussion on what people think. I did notice a few aussies floating around the forum, plus I figure there is bound to be some out there who have read and enjoyed a couple of authors.

Well, there is Will Elliott. His The Pilo Family Circus leans more in the direction of horror, but is quite good and worth the read. He just released a fantasy novel, titled Pilgrims, from Harper Collins Australia, but I have not read it due to it, until just recently, not having a worldwide publisher.

I had heard of The Pilo Family Circus. I might have to grab it and let you know ;). (either that or I guess you could try the book depository)
Haven't heard much about Fallon although to be honest what I have heard hasn't been the best. Didn't Larke win an Aurealis for one of hers though?

Unfortunately, none of his other books beyond The Pilo Family Circus are available outside of Australia (and NZ, I suppose, since they have the rights there, as well) and that includes ordering through The Book Depository. Quercus Books only just recently obtained the rights in the UK and checking their site, it appears that the book will be available next May. So, looking forward to that. Now if only someone would publish his memoir outside of Australia.

I don't know, her Tide Lords series seems well regarded to me. As for Larke, what I've heard seems to put her in just about average.

I love Australian authors, let me see, you can try:
Trudi Canavan - Black Magician Trilogy (she also has a couple of other novels set in this world including a prequel, The Magician's Apprentice), The Age of Five
Cecilia Dart-Thornton - Bitterbynde Trilogy, Crowthistle Chronicles (she likes to write about the fey, I particularly enjoyed her Crowthistle novels)
Ian Irvine - Three Worlds Cycle Series (11 books so far in this series, 2 quartets and 1 trilogy with a further planned trilogy, I have really enjoyed his novels and would recommend them)
Kate Forsyth - Witches of Elleanan and Rhiannon's Ride series (A good read)
Garth Nix - The Old Kingdom Series (he's written much more but these are the ones I've read and recommend, probably more YA though but still a good read)
Sara Douglass - Troy Game Quartet (historical fantasy), Axis Trilogy and Wayfarer Redemption (she also has other trilogies, novels, those mentioned are just the ones I've read and enjoyed)
Jennifer Fallon - she's already been mentioned and I've read all her works but particularly loved The Demon Child Trilogy
Glenda Larke - also already mentioned, I loved her Mirage Makers trilogy. I don't think she has won Aurealis but has had several finalist novels.

Ok so looking through that list I may have attempted to read a couple of those authors before.
I gave Sara Douglas a try a couple of times (first book of the troy game and part of the first book in Axis) and it just wasn't my type of book. Also tried Irvine's first book but gave up after the first chapter, the writing was terrible.
The lists are good guys, thanks :). Wouldn't mind hearing some other opinions out there.

Here are my two favorites:
Jennifer Fallon and I suggest her Second Sons trilogy that begins with The Lion of Senet. It is excellent.
Fiona McIntosh has three trilogies that I would recommend. The Quickening, Valisar, and Percheron. They are on the darker side of fantasy in my opinion.
