i read it a few weeks back and I didn't think it was any good. There's nothing really intriguing, nothing that really compels me to get the next book. I'm not saying its rubbish just a little average, save your money for something better.

I'm going to have to disagree with you SirRob. Well, not completely. I didn't think that the plot was very good, but I think that a very unique world and magic system was created. I especially like the endowments factor, even though it does create a "superman" type of character. I think that if these ideas were handled more carefully A Sum of All Men would have been a fabulous novel. But book two Brotherhood of the Wolf *right?* I thought was a little better. The plot was intriguing enough for me to get into and I liked the ending. But book three was a lot better, so it seems to me that the books and author *can't remember his name* seem to be maturing in writing in each novel.

I believe his name is David Farland. I was wondering if he ever came out with his fourth book , or is it due to come out . If not he should let people know if he is not continuing the series.

The fourth book will be called Lair of Bones and should publish March/April of 2003. The book is just about complete, but TOR doesn't want the book to get lost in the Jordan shuffle at the end of this year.

Thanks for the heads up FF, I have been out of the whole book seen for some time now and just started finding out the release dates of some books I was looking forward to purchasing when they were published.

I think the title will work since the last seen of the book has them going down into the lair of the beasts and they will definately find many bones there.

Wow! I didn't know the title of #4. But I am still hoping our mighty publisher translate the series here. It'll be kinda loooong waiting for Modessit and Farland.

"Tor Books" are kinda of monopolist like "Del Rey Fantasy" and "Bantam Books", aren't they? Because they publish Jordan, Goodkind, Farland, Modessit, Piers Anthony, who else?

Interesting. I haven't read book three. I really enjoyed the first book, but found book two utterly pointless.

I thought that Farland was just playing at making his characters godlike in that book rather than actually moving the plot along at all.

What is it you like about book three exactly?

I am not sure which one of us you are asking , so Ill answer. I like the third book , been a while since i read it , so please excuse me if I don't give to many specifics , that and so that those who have not read the third book can without having anything spoiled.

I like all the books in the series, like others i found the series to be refreshing so far. I say this because of the way he uses the endowments as a key to his story. They may at first appear to be supermen/women but it is proven that they can have that power stripped from them, as well as the effects that the endowements have on them. In most stories characters have unbelievable power and no side effects or drawbacks but with the runelord system it takes away from you as much as you gain. Also I think that Mr. Farland is progressing with each book that he writes. I am no excpert on writing but I think it would be very difficult to try and make readers understand a character in the short time that the story id taking place , I think that the whole story takes place in less than a week. To me that shows so talent , no matter what others say.

as I think up so more reasons , i wll add to it but at this moment I am trying to remember more specifics of the book , as I read it the day it came out.

Agree LR--
the endowments definitely have consequences, esp with the more one takes.

and yes, the fact that the time that all three books have taken is only days is something pretty neat, too.

Thanks for the reply FF, I also think that the time frame is something of a refeshment as it is a different aproach to the fanstasy genre, most books we read are supposed to take place over weeks then flow in to months and years. I likee what he has done by introducing this series. I am eagerly awaithing the fourth book.

And I will hopefully be able to post more often and submit more of my opinion, since it has been rarely seen since I became a member.
