The title I'm looking for is from the 1950's or 1960's at the latest. It concerns a story about high schoolers in the future who have to take this class to pass. The class requires them to "jump" to strange/foreign planets, and live there for a short time. They are only allowed to bring one item, which can be anything. some bring a big dog, some weapons. Something goes wrong with the transport device though, and the kids are stranded for some time before they are finally rescued. I can't remember the author or the title. Anyone out there able to help???
